I've a Samsung Galaxy SII bought in August last year and have rooted and flashed it with a custom ROM.

There is a certain issue with the phone for which I want to send it to the Samsung service center.

My concern, is the warranty still intact ?

nope...

but you can just flash back the stock rom and unroot..then you will be able to claim warranty without any hassles.

Although most of the time the service center personnel are a bunch of numbskulls so you might even get your rooted phone repaired, though i recommend you to unroot first before submitting to the ASSC

As per Samsung India " Warranty does not cover defects or alleged defects caused by the fact that the product was used with, or connected to, a product, accessories, software and/or service not manufactured, supplied or authorised by SAMSUNG or was used otherwise than for its intended use, Defects can be caused by viruses from your or from third party¡¯s unauthorised access to services, other accounts, computer systems or networks. This unauthorised access can take place through hacking, password-mining or through a variety of means. "

These mobile service centres are typical of finding issues to not to accept the warranty, but I would still try once. Moreover beware, chance are if they take your mobile it will be formatted and reseted to factory settings, so its best to do a backup before giving the phone to these crazies ;-)

Have you or anyone you know done this ? I mean, Flash stock rom and unroot and claimed its warranty ?

Cause from what I read, the binary counter can only be reset by using a USB Jig.

yeah u will need a usb jig to reset counter but it wont matter if u dont coz the service center guys dont check the phone that way but still to be safe just get a jig. if you are in mumbai, try heera panna for a usb jig in case u need one (usually available for 70-80 bucks there). or you can try superoneclick or doomlord's unrootin script also. in either case to reset the binary counter u require a jig

There is a tool now available by Chainfire to reset the binary counter! Using a jig is definitely simpler, but you have an option to do it without the jig!

Samsung guys doesn't even know a sh*t about root and stuff. I got a replacement couple of months back. My phone (Galaxy S)'s screen was dead because of overheat. I had custom ROM installed and as there was nothing on display, I couldn't flash stock ROM. I was on Darky's ROM. I decided to try my luck and went to Samsung ASSC. They returned me my phone with replaced screen

They didn't even recognized, I was on custom ROM.

^^usually the samsung guys are a bunch of numbskulls but once in a while they have some one who checks for rooting and stuff (happened to me once), so its better not to take the risk. if your device is not bricked, just reset the counter and flash stock before depositing the handset.

Yeah I live in Mumbai.

Which shop no in Heera Panna will I get the USB Jig ? Is there a way to make sure Im getting the right USB Jig ? Or much better if some shop over there can actually perform the reset operation on my phone

Hey are you the same Pat123 from XDA ? I read what you wrote that using a USB Jig did not work successfully on your phone ?

Yes, I am. It did work successfully, just that it changed my initial boot-screen. But it's fine, no too bothered about that.

Yeah but now that the initial Boot Screen is changed, will that compromise the warranty in any way ? I mean the guys over at the ASSC are definitely gonna have some concerns over that as well right ?

Also, Im on Check ROM REVOHD , is there any guide to follow so that I can flash the stock rom and stock kernel before using the USB Jig (If I may use the Jig) ?

^^Of course, I will have to restore the original bootscreen in case I need a warranty replacement/repair!

Checkout the USB Jig FAQ thread over at xda forums for more information!

I just bought the USB Jig from Ebay and followed the instructions in the USB Jig FAQ thread but after switching the phone off and inserting the USB Jig it is not booting into the Download Mode ? Is the USB Jig not working ? Or do I need to flash an old bootloader to get this working ?

Yeah I just flashed the old bootloader posted in the Intratech's thread on XDA but still after insering the USB Jig , the phone is not automatically booting up in Download Mode

Update

USB Jig didn't work at all. So I was only left with one option that is using the Chainfire's Triangleaway.

I updated to ICS and used TriangleAway and then downgraded to Stock Rom using the Mobile Odin.

So now am on UnRooted Stock Rom labeled "Samsung Official" with zero counter
