No idea why but this is what is happening...

Cod4 - Starts fine, but as soon as the first loading screen starts, an error comes up " DirectX has encounterd an unrecoverable error". The loading video plays but the game doesnt load up and has to be closed down.

Gears of War - Starts fine, but keeps crashes just before the first scene with an error saying it has encountered a problem.

UT3 demo works perfectly fine... Crysis i still have to install..

Any idea whats wrong with these games... i have a 7900GTX 512mb with the latest drivers and the latest DirectX.... Tried reinstallting as well....
Is it time to format my PC ??? :P
 
hmm i dont think so

this is a driver bug

used to happen the same thing with me in 2 of my games

i installed different forceware and everything was sorted out

but once in fear it used to crash in the 2nd level no matter what drivers or what card i used

then i downloaded a whole new fresh copy and it worked fine

this is not a windows prob AFAIK
 
i hope u used driver sweeper in safe mode after each driver removal before update, sometime left over files screw the system.

Anyway do this.

Download rivatuner 2.06 if you have not already.

Download FUR Rendering Benchmark.

Run it in windowed mode by selecting stability test. See if there are any crashes or lockups and at the same time keep an eye on temps.

If it does not crash, it will ensure that system files, hardware is in good shape and problem might be somewhere else.

If its crashing try removing system drivers ( Mobo drivers, in case on Intel its Intel INF update utility ) and updating it to latest build. Reinstall the drivers and give it a go.

If there are still issues, format and clean install ( I usually go directly to this step most of the times :P ).

If problems continue then its mostly hardware related. But its highly unlikely if UT3 is working properly.
 
Did that... no crashed... temperatures did soar up about after 5 mins.... but otherwise no problems showed up....

dloading the latest beta drivers, would install those and see if it helps..
 
I had no stability problems with COD4 what so ever. Played the whole game twice already (Normal and Hard).

As for Gears of War, I have no personal experience, but it seems that this game is plagued with problems and people have been reporting numerous crashes in the game.
 
it works fine in my other rig... Pentium D 2.8, 512mb ram and 7600GT....

But wont run in my main rig... friggin direct X problem :(

Formatting windows here is come :P

Been waiting, Landmark still doesn't have it so I downloaded the extended demo version :P

@Karan, if it was a directx problem you should have experienced problems in other directx games too, don't you think? I'm wondering if that format/reinstall is going to be a waste of time... let me know anyhow.
 
Another tip... This kind of thing may also happen when you have a older revision of DirectX than what is required by the game and the revisions are not too far apart (Ex: You have the Jul Update and the Game requires the Oct update), the game will not be able to detect that the required version of DX is not installed and just proceeds to run which may result in an error code/crash at a later stage. Just to be sure, install the DirectX bundled with COD4.
 
Newer games incorporate a directx update in the game installer itself, and I'm guessing COD4 also has the required update.
 
well... solved COD4 problem...

Uninstalled Nvidia drivers using driver cleaner pro from Guru3d.... then downloaded the 169.09 beta drivers and installed them.... COD 4 works... without any problem... havent tried GeoW as the installation DVD is with a friend.. will let you know 2morow :)
 
The only solution to GeoW problem is simple -

When you start the game, after 30 secs or so you'll get this problem. DONT do anything to the 'encountered a problem' screen. Just let it remain there. Notice however the game is still running in background. Just press Alt+Tab and you are back in the game...now the problem wont come again as long as your playing....Once you exit, of course you can close the 'problem' screen :)

I'm pissed off from the save problem in this game. I logged into my windows live acc before playing, at start of game pressed home key, linked the live acc to game, created my gamer profile and the game was saving properly even when i restarted it later. This was yesterday. Now today for some reason, all my checkpoints are gone (the checkpoint save directories exist on my pc, but are empty)...i read somewhere, ppl backup these directories and restore them next day when they play - i'll have to play 20% of game again :(... this is so not done Microsoft
 
The GeOW is giving me "runtime error"....alongwith the "wargame-g4wlive.exe encountered a problem screen" result there are 2 error screens in front of me now :(

Damn i cant play this game :(

Please help guys.........

^^ The solution to first error i've posted earlier (just press alt+tab and continue playing the game without closing this error msg window)...For the second error, disable windows blinds. Try reinstalling vcredist_x86 (google for it). Search online for this problem if it still doesn't go away. This game reminds me of GRAW which when released was so buggy yet so beautiful
 
Windows blinds, i dont have it. I use the patched theme's file no windows blind or anything else :(

also the second error comes first = game crashes instantly

then the first error comes = alt tab b/w two error :P

help......
