No Cabby+PSU? :bleh:

Add 1K for Cabby + 1.5K for Powersafe/Zebronics PSU (Unless ofcourse you can spend more for an Antec or a Cooler Master)!! :hap2:

You can get transcend 1Gb ddr2 for around 4.5k , so that saves another 1k for PSU+Cabby

No buddy..The Transcend RAM would cost atleast 5.2K..The prices have really shot up lately!!

Today I enquired at NP, noone is giving the Transcend DDR400 512MB stick for less than 2.8K..:(

EDIT: And the DDR2 prices are a tad higher than DDR!!

This is the rig that I recommend provided gaming is your priority and main purpose.

AMD 64 3000 x939/AM2

Asus A8N E (s939)/ overclockable AM2 board

2 X 512MB DDR 400/DDR2 667 Transcend/Corsair Value(provided it is supported)

Seagate 160GB SATA II NCQ

Geforce 7600GT Palit - 8.5k

The last time i enquired , ddr2 prices were lower than ddr ? are you sure they shot up ?

Absolutely!!

Infact here are the exact prices I got for DDR 400 & DDR2 667 RAM modules from Computer Empire, considered by most to be the cheapest shop in NP..

Prices for a 512MB stick:

DDR 400
Corsair Value Select - 3400
Kingston - 3000
Transcend - 2900

DDR2 667
Corsair Value Select - 3900
Kingston - 3450
Transcend - 3400

Cheers!!

Thanks a lot guys but I forgot to mention a couple of details.
I need a flat screen not a crt. 15" would do.
The pc is only for gaming, music and movies nothing else would work on it.
Hope you have some more suggestions for it..
Thanks and Regards

As to the RAM prices, theyve gone up like crazy. I recently bought 2 gigs of corsair XMS2 PC6400 for $185. Now the same memory is ~ $300

Alot of people are upgrading to C2D's and demand for DDR2 has gone up alot, especially performance DDR2. I read somewhere that prices will stabilize sometime next year but there was doubt as to if they will go down again.

About your monitor, Id suggest anything with a 17" or more viewable area, whether it be CRT or LCD. I think a CRT will fit better into your budget. If you really want an LCD, consider saving in other areas and pick up a 17" LCD.
