CPU/Mobo Gaming PC plz help

Hey guyz!!!
I want a good gaming PC yet i am a lil bit confused over dual core and 64 bit issue. As far as i know dual core offers better multitasking... and 64 bit offers better data bandwidth... now i have searched a li bit over internet and ppl sem to suggest Dual core for a gaming PC... this i can't understand...
I want a gaming PC... a mid size range... am not that big hard core fan of gaming.. has been in unreal, AOE, max payne, hitman stuff 2 yrs back when i lost touch... and i think will continue on the same lines...

so what kind of configuration i shud go for... cuz this time sky seems to be the limit for gaming PC's... plz suggest me over CPU selection (with socket configuration of course) and over Graphics card cuz somebody suggested dualcore SLI is the future....
I want to spend more in CPU so that i shudn't need at least CPU upgradation in the near future say 2-3 yrs...

plz plz plz... help me out!!!

You need a dual core CPU and you don't really need SLI unless you have unlimited funds available to you :D As soon as you post budget, you will get real answers... for a start you can visit the budgets and configs thread ;)

Well My budget ir approx 35-40,000/= which i think i can extend upto 50,000/= looking at benefits which i might be getting in long term.. like lesser need for upgrades etc....

my main concern is no upgrade for processor in next 2-3 yrs!!!
Also i am not going to use my PC for multitasking ever...

Well, thinking long term, you should go for Intel Core 2 Duo. Check out the market sections for some good deals on CPU and motherboard.

The confusion still remains the same... how a processor designed for multitasking is really gonna benefit in running a single heavy application like Game...

AFAIK all dual core PCS support 64 bit .. so thats not an issue

so shud i go for C2D or AMD 64 X2... and moreover what's the prices??? where can i find the latest market price???

Try www.deltapage.com for the prices.

If you intend to overclock and your machine and get the max out of it, then nothings better than a C2D. E6300 is priced at around 10k and the E6400 2k more. with a bit of overclocking it can beat most of the Athlon X2 Line. If you are not going to overclock and would like to run the processor at default clocks, then Athlon X2 3800 or 4200 would suit fine. For a C2D setup you can get a decent 965 based mobo for around 7k. For Athlon too you should be able to get a decent mobo for 5~7k.

RAM 1 GB (5k) . HDD, a 160/200 GB Seagate (3~3.5 k).

19" LCD Monitor (Samsung 940BW or Viewsonic VA1912) for 15~16k

A decent GPU like 7600GS or 7600GT (7~10k).

Powersafe 500W + Any decent cabby you like and rest of stuff like keyboard mouse and speakers.

yup there are no games on Linux... but i would need to run Linux for few of other things... some developement projects...
and in any case i would like to have no such hurdles like i can't run linux etc... if i am spending some 40-50K!!!

one more thing... does anybody know whether E6600 or E6700 is available in India specially in Delhi or not... if yes then how much is the price???

Second thing if I am planning for SLI in future which modo and Graphics card shud i go for???

E6600 should be near the 18k mark. For SLI nVidia (SLI) mobos are the best, but they are mostly for AMD. Intel support is shitty as far as I know.

Also I dont think there should be any problems with X2 processors on Linux. AMD 64 is supported for sure and there is no reason why X2 should not be supported

and if intel doesn't support SLI shud i go for ATI crossfire.. but again ATI has been aquird by AMD... so what support for Intel chipsets i can expect in future...
