Hey guys ,
My current rig stands as follows , 3600+ ; Jetway 690G ; 1 GIG ram. I am intrested in some gaming. I am trying to get hold of a 6600 GT or equivalent card. I have checked a couple of them online , what seems to be available is a 256 MB Gddr 2 solution and a GDDr3 128 MB solution. Which of these two is faster ? I am looking for something which is around 80 $ so any suggestions apart from this one ? (Will be getting it from the US)

Cheers!

Hmmm .. thats strange , never heard of a 6600GT with GDDr2 :p ... About getting a new card ... save up and get a 8600GT 256 MB .. worth the money over the 6600GT :p ..

And , simply put , in most cases u'd hear that the 6600GT really wouldn't do miracles with 256 MB .. but in my opinion , the 6600GT with 256 MB is really better than the 128 MB one .. not that it'll give u much more fps , but it'll make sure ur gameplay has less stutters :p ..

Also , plz. make sure the 256 MB one has GDDr3 .. its really rare to see a 6600GT with GDDr2 :p ..

Don't buy a 6 series card now. Get 8500 GT or 7900 GS. 7900 GS goes for about 129$ after rebate on Newegg, so the extra 50$ is well worth the performance. If you don't wanna spend the extra 50 bucks, stick with the 8500 GT.

But remember that 8500 GT has DX10 support while 7900 GS does not.

While I second TehDevil's statement that get a 8600GT/7900GS/8500GT in that order IMO

But remember that 8500 GT has DX10 support while 7900 GS does not.

While this statement is true what one must understand is that the 8500GT wont be able to handle games as well as 7900GS as 7900GS>>>8500GT in terms of performance.

The point being 8500GT cant handle DX10 Games, but 7900GS can handle any new upcoming game (atleast at low res) on DX9 codepath. And since DX9 compatibility aint gonna disappear overnight (apart from 1 or 2 games) if you can, the 7900GS is the best bang for the buck you can get right now.

A 8600GT would have been nice, but I guess would be a bit more expensive then 7900GS

More than the 7900GS, the X1950Pro is there too. But I guess thats around 180$ right?

I still suggest go with a 8500GT. Its better in performance than a 6600GT and it has DX10 support.

Also, 6600GT came with DDR2 and GDDR3 support. Not GDDR2.

x1950 Pro is a rockin' card, you can get a HIS Radeon x1950 Pro for about 150 off Newegg after rebate. I believe it's faster than 7900 GS, although I'm not 100% sure about this.

Opp's my bad.

I guess , i will go with the 8500 GT. 8600 GT is about 130-150 mark , whereas 7900 GS is about 160+.

Thanks for the input guys!
Love this place ;)

Mr. Funfuse,

Sorry to scrap ur thread.

Just wanted to ask the guru's

- How does the hierarchy go in nv cards - GT-GS-GX. is there any GTS also?

- does AMD proccy/mobo support SLI feature?

- what is the low cost available gfx card with SLI support.

- will two 7300 GS connected thru SLI chip work wonders. how much does the GS cost??

Ultra faster than GTX faster than GTS faster than GT faster than GS. I dont think they use any other monikors than these few.

2.AMD Proc/Modo very well supports SLi

3.to see any performance increase atleast a 7600gt Pcie is required.

4.nope it wont,still better it CAN'T.

Oh... Does a 8500GT beat a 6600GT? Not sure about that.. :S
That's why I'm waiting for that 8500GT review of yours...
