I'm gonna go ahead and put my money on HD3870.... unfortunately, availability at reasonable cost in Indian market is a big issue. Nevertheless, most probably I'll try and get it from US, so cost wise it makes a good investment.

if you are on a budget, why not an 8800gt 256mb - its only 220$ in US and very available....core clock is same (600-650mhz), mem clocks are less - 1400-1600mhz across variants

If money is no dice then Go for the 8800GTS 512MB G92 from Phoenix for 20k. or if u are going for Multi GPU setup then get 3870 and Xfire it u'll have better performance than 8800GTX/Ultra.

if money is a constraint then 3870 as its 10.1 complaint so a lil future proof. then it comes down to personal choice actually.

Nice review. Following is one more site where you can acutally compare by pitting the different cards [any cards] against each other and scores are for a layman to take note of.

Video Card Comparison - GPUReview.com

My personal choice is HD 3850 512 from Sapphire [heatpipe model] or MSI considering its cost & DX 10.1 futuristic. Will be shortly getting through someone from US. No fun buying 8600GT or HD2900 etc now.

I would still go for the 8800GT now cause i dont see any 10.1 games comming untill end of 2008 ....... till then i will njoi full limits of the 8800GT textures n framerates @ high resolution :)

well premsharma695 thanks 4 dat amazing review site ;)

I dont know what are these comparison shit you are passing on prem, but 3850 is no match for 8800GT 512. You could have compared 3870 but not the 3850. 3850 should be chosen only if you are short of money otherwise 8800GT is a no brainer.

^^^^If you see the top most post, its talks about 8800GT(512MB) and then the comparison chart he has posted is for 8800GT 512 thats why my comment.

HD 3870 is also compared at post 11. If these are shits then why can't I say that all 8800 gt review are "gover" a real shit.

I am not talking about the costs in India, but there is huge difference in costs in US bet. these two 8800gt & 3850. Learn to tolerate others' viewpoint also.

We are not trying to match both here. They are different, so they are. Things are based on prices where difference is very minimal. This comparason is for a normal user and who can not afford.

For you if money is no concern then you may buy Asus gfx with aquagate liquid cooling for rs 45000

i'd prob take a bet on the 3870 and some good ATI drivers being released soon.. if and when that happens, i think a pair of 3870 in crossfire will give pretty damn awesome bang for the buck :)

^^ HD3850 in crossfire brings you performance close to 8800GTX, at way lower cost and very good power saving features.

HD3870 in crossfire may not save you lot of power, still at price-point it will give you amazing performance.

Even a single HD3870 makes a better proposition price and availability wise, compared to 8800GT... not to mention, RV6xx chips being better performers beyond gaming. Since these are based on same core used in current ATi workstation offerings, they give good performance in professional applications such as Maya, max and such.

Those who're looking for something that balances power requirement, cost and performance beyond just gaming... ATi offerings fits the bill better... no matter how good 8800GT is, it's still not an absolute winner, well at least not for me.
