Hey Guys!

I'm new to oc'ing. I installed FEAR Combat on my old rig. It's quite laggy, perhaps coz the min sys requirements demand 512 MB RAM, 64 MB VRAM. My rig's RAM is 512 MB which means, i'm running on min specs of the game.

Would oc'ing my vid-card really help get rid of the lag? If yes, what should be core clock and memory clock speeds?

A sort of tutorial/guide would be quite helpful coz i wish to OC the card anyway.

im sorry to say...that even overclocking ur 5200 wont make much of a diff....fear is quite a resource hungry game...better get some new budget card..maybe the 7600 ...itll play the game at decent resolutions and fps.

It will help a bit..i think the 74.something drivers were good for that card + use coolbits 2.0

Update the drivers...FX series runs best on 84.26 or any other 84.xx

For overclocking, you can add coolbits by tweaking the registry . I had a problem as the coolbits used to reset itself to original clocks, so i modified the BIOS with new clock speeds of my FX 5500.

BTW, as said b4, fx 5200 isnt good enough for FEAR, better get a modern gfx card.

^^could you post the stock speeds of your card ?
if the mem clock is 333 then it means that the memory is rated at 400mhz which is a well know fact with the fx5200...so u can take the speeds straight to 400 on the mem..
if the mem clock is 400 then you can go straight to 500^^same reason as above
neways it wont help with fear... even a 6200 struggles with that

if u could have a peek into your cabby and give the last 4-5 letters of the ram chips that would be great :D
but 400mhz would usually mean that you can go straight for 500

PS: does your card have a fan?

and a problem with the fx5200 is that it wont accept any clocks from coolbits if you press the test clocks button so you should use ati-tool, powerstrip or rivatuner

^^i use stock settings coz i dont think oc will help teh disaster that is the fx5200 :D

^ Hmm...i just checked with nTune, it show 300 Mhz as the core clock and 400 Mhz the memory clock, these are the overclocked frequencies, orginal mem. must have been lower.

Yes my fx5500 has a fan, albeit a small one :D . The speeds are lower coz' its PCI , not AGP.

And sorry, i didnt get those 4-5 letters of RAM stick point ?

^^you said above that you have a fx5200...now its changed to a 5500?? :D

what i was saying is that the 5200 comes with 2 different clocks..
one has 400mhz mem.. (like u)
other has 333mem (like me :P)

and the ram chips have some gibberish writtem on it...can you check out the last 4-5 letters on your ram chips?
^^it will indicate the speed of the ram on your card
usually its way above the clocks of the card so you can increase them straight away
