It might seem impossible to accommodate CPU, MoBo and RAM in the mentioned budget, but it is possible. A few days back at Aashirwad comp. SP Road, the price of Athlon II x2 260 was around 2.5K + vat.

Now that I am forced to upgrade this PC, I expect it to run smoothly for at least the next 3-5 years.

Thanks in advance

Get AMD Athlon 260 for 3200 and gigabyte 760G mobo for 2600 and a 4 GB ddre Corsair value select for 1200.This totals to 7k..If possible..very much doubtfull thought..get hold of a second hand 555BE instead of Athlon 260..then the total may shoot up to ~8k..

"It might seem impossible to accommodate CPU, MoBo and RAM in the mentioned budget, but it is possible. A few days back at Aashirwad comp. SP Road, the price of Athlon II x2 260 was around 2.5K + vat.",,,What?..is it true..?weeks back it was around 3.2k..?

I'd suggest you go for Intel Pentium G620 instead of AMD Athlon II X2 260. Refer to the following for benchmark details:

http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=AMD+Athlon+II+X2+260

http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Pentium+G620+@+2.60GHz

Intel Pentium G620 - 3600

ASUS P8H61-M PLUS V2 - 3500

Corsair DDR3 2x2 GB 1333 MHz - 1400

But you said your budget was strictly 6-7k. The cheapest H61 board I know of is ASUS P8H61-M LX which will cost you around 3000 Rs. so you save 500 Rs. You can remove one of the sticks and save 700 Rs. I doubt if you can go lower than this if you decide to go with an Intel LGA 1155 processor.

Just checked with a couple of shops in SP Road and nobody seems to have the 555BE, they suggested me Athlon 560 at Rs.4200 + vat. So this is ruled out.

The other day I was discussing about E350 based board+APU with Dinesh and he said it would work out much cheaper to go for Athlon II x2 260 at Rs.2500 + vat. But today when I called to confirm, it seems he misquoted and its actual price is 3100 + vat.

Thanks for those links, they do give a rough idea about these processors. I have decided to go with Pentium G620 or G630 as it is the replacement for G620. And I do not want to buy Asus for obvious reasons. There are so many H61 boards on gigabyte website that I am not sure which one to buy, can someone help me choose one, and which processor has better graphics, the Athlon or the Pentium?

Can I buy 1600Mhz 2x2GB ram and run them at that speed, or is it limited to 1333Mhz ?

Also, Intel PDC G620 is priced Rs.3150 + vat

Thanx bro..I have been trying to upgrade my 5600 for ages..severe cash crunch..Not sure abt the 4200 price tag for phenom 560..think it is around 4600..

But yes..if u r going for Athlon 260..better to go for G620..i got distracted by the "Pentium" tag..those benchmarks are eyeopener stuff..

Its pointless going to Gigabyte website and comparing all the mobos since only a couple of Giga H61 are available in Indian market.

So G620 is about ~ 3.3k (VAT inclusive)

Corsair 4GB 1333MHz DDR3 Value RAM is ~ 1.1k - 1.2k (VAT inclusive)

So we have about 3k-3.5k left for the mobo.

One of the main reasons for recommending Gigabyte GA-H61M-S2P-B3 is that its easily availble, pretty cheap @ 3.2k and has all solid capacitors which has a longer life. After sales service and reliability are also pretty good. One -ve is that it only has a D-Sub and no DVI.

http://www.gigabyte....spx?pid=3952#sp

If one wants DVI then they can opt for the Asus P8H61M Plus V2 ~ 3.7k. It has similar features with the addition of the DVI port.

You will not be able to get the Athlon 260 @ such a low rate.

Anyways, get the H61 board with DVI/HDMI, it will be much better in the future + better resale/repurpose value as a HTPC.

Also, as much as possible, stick to 1600 RAM, only go for 1333 if overbudget.

@ DarkAngel

Thanks for the clarification.

@ vivek.krishnan

I will buy a board with a DVI.

If there is anything else I need to know, feel free to pour in guys.
