GeoHot is hot once again! He has just released a video which demos his 'custom firmware'. This can be installed WITHOUT having to open up your PS3 and just by restoring a custom generated PUP file. It is also possible that this CFW may work on the PS3 slim too

Here is a video demoing my "custom firmware". It's not any sort of version string change; I would have added something showing off the new features of 3.21, but oh wait, there aren't any.

This can be installed without having to open up your PS3, just by restoring a custom generated PUP file, but only from 3.15 or previous. It's possible this CFW will also work on the slim to actually *enable* OtherOS; I'll know when my infectus gets here.

No release date yet, use the proxy hack to play online with 3.15

Note to the people who removed OtherOS, you are potentially turning 100000+ legit users into "hackers." There was a huge(20x) traffic spike to this blog after the announcement of 3.21. If I had ads on this site I guess I'd be thanking you.

This guy is amazing .. He has managed to get cfw on ps3 by himself and within 2 weeks of 3.21fw announcement . I didn't upgrade to latest fw because of this .. Happy days soon it seems ;)

^I concur! Just when the Sony folks thought they could manage to remove the Other OS install option from all the PS3 consoles, BANG comes Geohot with his exploit.

The day isn't far when he'd release a simple hack to play the games off the hard drive/burned BDs. By then the BD burners would have become cheaper and affordable and Sony would have thought of the next gen console. :P

It was his console you are talking about.

Do you think SONY wud not have put in a Security Feature to avoid people implementing such hacks ???

SONY is in deep shit if this is true, but how many of you will be risking it to just avoid installing other OS??? hacking a PSP is someways affordable, but if PS3 gets bricked, it would be a costly affair to get it repaired :bleh:

So enjoy the Official Firmware, until u are in dire need to have Linux on ur System ;)

Also there is a conspiracy or rumour -
PS3 Firmware Update 3.21 Conspiracy
So I received a very interesting tip on my YouTube channel today from a user that goes by the name of meowmmmmm. He claims to have heard from a programmer that firmware update 3.21 was far from just removing the other OS function to prevent hackers from exploiting it.

Meowmmm writes: “Update 3.21 which Sony described as a security update and removes installing another OS is a lie. Apparently Sony had claimed that the 8th SPE was not used to increase production yields, when in fact it was reserved for running the "Other OS". Update 3.21 by Sony is in fact an advanced strike by Sony to hide the fact that the 8th SPE is needed to process the "Move Controller/s" without sacrificing existing graphics and game play.â€

If this is in fact true then everything we were made to believe about firmware update 3.21 is a flat out lie (OMFG HERE COMES A CONSPIRACY THEORY). I’m still puzzled to why Sony would lie about something such as this. It could possibly mean that Sony just used the George Hotz situation as a way to cover up their true intentions for removing the other OS function. Maybe they thought that Playstation Move was not a justifiable reason to mention the removal of the extra OS since it isn’t going to debut until fall. We can only ride this off as a rumor (a very big rumor) until more details come through. There will be more updates as this story develops.

Whoa.. Hold onto ur horses buddy..
too many prophesies for one post u got there. A bit too excited are we eh?? :)
I think it wd be a case of cheap chinese games which would flood the market.
Getting a BD burner, the media and downloading 25GB or there abouts will surely be a good triathlon in itself.

I think i did read about Sony's next gen stuff in the works, and i still do believe the Sony ppl themself unleash the exploits for psp to boost its sales.. so this can be possible with ps3 as well.
A robust system till now and next gen stuff on the horizon and the time just right to see spike in the sales to play the cat and mouse game by getting the patches and forcing ppl to get another console maybe.

I think there would be few people who would want to.
and once it indeed gets confirmed, one person in your group does it and suddenly you would only have the vision of unbelievable games library and not abt what abt the uber costly ps3 console conking off.
Somebody pls tell me Dark Alex is behind this.. he has been silent on the psp front for too long now.

It quite would but who'd want a BD burner when you could manage copying the BD contents to the hard drive and having it stored in the drive of the PS3? Or have it connected to a NAS? Which's what we essentially imply by a hack right?

Well atleast i would want to keep the ramification of a hack open.
lugging 25GB on the HDD would be a good amount of data. 4 games and whoo hoo.. another terabyte needed. The cost for hdd will add up eventually.
Cheap BD games from your local flea mkt still seems good.

But really, all this discussion seems far fetched.
nothing very clear regarding running unsigned codes and here we are in the clouds and discussions galore :P

4 x 25 = 1 TB? Spacey saar is everything alright? :bleh:

Ulp ..

sorry.. shdnt be speaking over the fone and replying to a thread at the same time.

going back on that blunder .. enabling pirated disc wont be too bad either :P

*shuts off fone before submitting*

Once again to remind you, he has just hacked one feature for PS3 and also have not released any hack for users to use and confirm it's working. :)

So lets just wait n watch :)

I'm still waiting with 3.15 on my system. Using some DNS server to keep online without the firmware check booting me offline. More than pirated stuff, I want to see whether he comes up with some Homebrew apps on the PS3.
