So, after a hectic December, looking for a quick getaway for a day/night at some peaceful place. Would be going out with my wife.

Requirements:
Place near to beach is preferred.
Should be around 50 Kms from Thane
Dont want to spend more than Rs. 2500.

Google throws many options but want to hear from members from their personal experience......
Waiting for your replies :)

AFAIK, there aren't any tourist beaches within 50km of Thane. Your best bet would be to go to Nagaon beach which is around 100km from Thane. It's a decent beach with water sports and isn't as crowded as Kashid or Alibaug. Also check out Akshi beach in the same area. Although I haven't been to this place personally, I've heard a lot of good things about it.

Dahanu? Go by train.
Or travel the other direction and try a cup of tea at Taj post 6 pm instead :D Meets all your criteria.

Best option is Nagaon.
try taking ferry from Gateway of India, fort. Just For FUN.
If interested I'll get the details, including a nice lace to stay there.

Avoid beaches in Mumbai.

Dahanu is not a good option considering the time you travel to reach there. The NH* is good, but internal roads are not so good.
Go there for cheap booze and nice parsi meal.

Why not try Malshej Ghat. MTDC or Su shant resort. Nice and Quiet place to stay and most importantly, since places like Malshej Ghat are only considered as one day picnic spot, people don't stay there.
But I feel, Malshej ghat needs couple of days to enjoy. You need your own vehicle.

For strictly speaking about a resort near Thane, Best one is Shangrilla. But again it's a water park, so will be wasting 75% of your money.

^ @geek ashish, Both Malshet Ghat and Nagon looks good to me.
The constraint is that I can only go by my car and not through ferry. Hows the road anyways to both the places?
Also send me details about staying at Nagaon.
Thanks :)

I have been to Nagaon beach, pretty good for the seafood, the water sports. Its peaceful too, and if you want some secluded time, I think there is another beach 0.5 km away by road. The road is also pretty good, you might get some traffic near Pen. Dont know about resorts, I stayed at Dolphin House (small guest house, 5 min walk from the beach) which had decent rooms and nice owner couple. Paid Rs 1500/night.

Amby valley on weekend is too crowded.

Dolphine house

Roads are fairly good as Alibaug has tourists all through the year.
Some traffic jam at Pen and Vadkhal naka.
At vadkhal naka, you want to take the right fork.

Also exactly at the vadkhal naka, there are two nice, clean veg restaurants for b/f.
I recommend " Hotel Kshudha Shanti bhavan".
have something there, esp for family. coz after that all the decent places to eat are at the destinations. ie alibaug, nagaon kihim and mandva.

If you are going on NH17/Goa highway for the first time, take GPS (mobile will do too) with you.
Very easy to take a wrong turn at Vadkhal.

Also My bro has been to Mandva beach recently and is in love with it.
found this on net
Mandva Beach Resort - Alibag Weekend Cottage - Alibaug
Adventure Mandwa - Water Sports near Mandwa Jetty, Alibaug

In kokan you can always find good food, veg and non-veg. so don't worry about it.
Also since half of Mumbai needs a place to stay outside Mumbai at weekends, accommodation is not a problem too.
