hi guys...i'm facing a problem but i dont know what causes it. When i switch on my pc, my monitor says that display is not connected(the message we get when the monitor alone is switched on without turing on the CPU). But this does not happen always. When i contacted my dealer, he said it may be due to a faulty RAM. By his advice i used to remove the RAMs and clean its contacts and place it back into the slots. after some trials i get the display back on. then it works fine for some days and again the process repeats. Now i have replaced one of the RAMs with another which he said is tested to work and still face the same problem. Now what could be wrong?:(

Thanks

Seems like the CMOS battery's going to be dead in a few days' time. Get it replaced and then check if the display's up.

I hope the power and the DVI/VGA connectors are not loose. :)

PS: Where in ernakulam??

Hi ,

The SMPS...................Try changing That ,and Also Be More specific and Elaborate With Your Rig Details

Thanks for the quick reply. how can the battery go dead...my rig is just 9 to 10 months old..
and i had checked the connectors and they seem to be fine. moreover removing and the putting back the RAMs once or twice does brig it back. So that means it has nothing to do with the connectors right?

I'm basically from Cherai in Vypin island.

Even my SMPS is brand new..its a CM extreme power 650W as given in my sig. Now are u sure that my SMPS is the culprit? b'cos i have already gone busted spending on my rig and cant spend anything more on that at the moment..
In case of my hardware details, its the one given in my sig...

Thanks.

try swapping ram slots on the motherboard. This is either a RAM/Mobo problem. get either of them replaced under warranty. Best options would be to get the dealer to figure out the fault and cure it :P

hey wait, if you have dual RAM sticks , at least one of them should get detected. Beginning to look like mobo fault. 650i's are a bit fault prone

BTW that reminds me of another thing; A batch of XFX 650i ultra motherboards had problems and had to be RMA'd.

As greenie suggested, try swapping RAM sticks n using another stick if possible. Lastly, get it RMA'd with the help of ur dealer. :)

i tried swapping them in all the slots but no concrete decision could me made whether the RAM or the mobo is faulty and in case of RAM, which of the two sticks is at fault. once i had to remove and reinsert the RAM modules for about ten times to get back the display. Now running on just one stick and that too shows the same problems once in a while. And the temporary stick which my dealer gave also shows the same problems so not using that one.

Thanks.

I hope the same dealers sold you both the RAM and Mobo. Then its his problem now, to get it working :D

@gannu

how do i know the batch number of my mobo? and can u provide any link which has the batch numbers of faulty ones or some thing like that?

Thanks

yea u are right. i gave him my config and he picked up the components.

Thanks

it could be a graphic issue.. if you have graphic card attached, remove it and attach the vga cable to your onboard graphic port (if the mobo has any). Try resetting the BIOS.

oops.. didnt look at his signature :S .. if no onboard ... try swapping the gfx card and see if you get any display.

@ backtoexistence

just as greehorn said, the 650i doesnt have an onboard graphic port. Anyway...i'll reset the BIOS and check.

Thanks

At present, the display is working fine. So didnt try resetting the BIOS because even if that would have solved the problem, I wouldnt know. So i thought better do it when i lose the display again.

But another thing that came to my notice is that my mobo heat sink has become very hot even after 5 minutes of pc use. Is it usual? When i checked the mobo temp with Everest, it is shown as 4. But when i touch the heat sink it is too hot. Just cant understand why. That seems to be the hottest thing in the cpu.
