I have a Big 7600GS which has active cooling with a small fan. Since some time now it is making a continuous noise..
So out of irritation I disconnected the fan from card.

Now I have two questions:
1.) Where can I find a replacement & how much will it cost ?
2.) Will it create some problem if I use it without fan ?:ashamed:

Now that you've removed the stock fan, see if there's a ghetto way you could tie a bigger 80mm fan using zip-ties to the heatsink. There must be some way out. Post a pic of the heatsink with the fan removed - we'll suggest you how to go about doing that.

PS: Keep the stock fan safe just in case you need to RMA the card.

How are the temps after removing the card?
U might damage the card if the fan is disconnected and u game for 2-3 hrs continuous

@dOm1naTOr: It makes noise no matter what speed u set it to..

@Gannu : have not removed the card only unplugged it right now.. Have attached a reference pic.. Hope that helps..

Still if u want I can post original pics...

@vercetti: I don't game... I don't even need a gfx card but my board has none onboard( IP35E) so have to use it..

The temp on my card are like 70 C on average now with fan unplugged....

^Remove the stock fan and attach an 80mm fan using 2 zip ties - one to the heatsink towards the connector side and the other thru the SLI connector.

The lubrication of the bearings on the fan dried up.

I know how to do it for case fans but not too sure for graphic card fans. Some graphic card fans have the spindle header after removing the sticker whereas some have that plastic thing to protect the spindle header- some are removable and some are not. You need to put a 1-2 drop of sewing oil and make sure you don't make a mess of it. Slowly turn the fan so that the oil goes inside the fan spindle properly. After an hour or so, connect the card. Slowly the fan noise will decrease. There's always the ghetto way to do it.

You could always take it to a local pc technician and make him do it for you, assuming the spindle is exposed or has a cap which can be removed.

@Gannu : That is a very good way to do it... I'll first try the oiling thing else would replace it with a 80mm fan...

@The Sorcerer: I tried the sewing oil thingy without opening the fan & dropping oil in sides. Lemme try it with fan removed from heatsink & opening it...

Thanks everyone... The problem is solved & my card is now on average temp of 36 C... ( that's a huge diff of what i got without fan 65 C )
Lubrication drying was indeed the case...

@The Sorcerer : The case is the same with this fan as well, I mean it is exactly like case fan.. remove the spindle header fan pops out.. use machine oil & ur good to go...

I am not too sure about putting it on the sides is safe, but usually its put on the spindle.

It was what I tried earlier... but this time i opened it fully & put the oil on spindle .. which did the trick...

Thanks btw...
