Hello Guys,
I believe there might be numerous threads as such already existing, but suggestions per configurations differ so creating a new one.

I am looking to purchase a graphic card for my newly built system
Config
AMD Phenom II X4 940
Biostar TA790GX 128M
Corsair XMS2 2*2GB
Coolermaster Real Power Pro 460w PSU
Coolermaster CM690
160gig HDD

Currently I am eyeing the Palit gts 250 and the ati 4770(which isn't available with anyone as of now)
Looking to spend around 7-9k
Might even consider if better ones are available through the marketplace here.

Anyhoo, suggestions?

Thanks All!

Or u can get a Zotac or Palit GTX 260 Sonic for arnd 10.5 to 11K if possible. Huge increase in peformance for an additional budget of 1.5k or so.....

well, I checked and the 1gig gts 250 is 10k+.
In that case I think gtx260 makes more sense.
But I guess 10k+ is stretching too much for me as of now..

The gts 250 512mb @7.5k seems like a pretty good deal to me.

I might as well try the market place here for the gtx260, anything ~8 to sub 10k would be cool for this I guess.

I will put up an ad in the classifieds once I get the priviledge to do so.

Until then, if any of you guys would want to part with their gtx260 or 4850 or 4870's let me know...

More suggestions welcome...

if your board supports crossfire it is better to go for the 4770 or 4850 or a used 4870

u can buy another one later and crossfire them

also amd and ati are meant to be used together because they are designed to complement each other

check out their dragon platform on google and you will see what it means

That's is what I was thinking as well, "would it be more wise to go with an ati or stick a nvidia?"

Thing is I am kinda torn between gts 250, 4850 sonic, and the gtx 260.
also a new 4870 is expensive than the gtx 260?

I think I might have to delve into the used marketplace here for maybe scoring an ati card(I had seen a palit 4870 for 9k here, pretty sweet deal)

Another thing though, I did a bit of reading and I believe my psu maybe insufficient to run a gtx260 as of now, can someone with experience introject something on this maybe?

But bottomline is, I don't game heavily per say, but when I do I would want the visuals to be nice.. So yes.. many thoughts and confusion still prevails

delay your purchase to couple of weeks as HD4730 will be officialy available on june 8, and the performance is more or equal to that of HD4770.. Price will be $79 only which reflects here ~5k..:)

aren't 48xx supposed to be better than 47xx series?

was also wondering how would 4770 in CF work like?
I mean, as of now I could get one and probably a month or two later another one. Reviews seems to be good for these..

Any ideas of power consumption of 4770 in CF?
CM RP 460w enough? or an upgrade of the psu would be in order as well?

Such a good system, and not even a CorsairVX550W?

Its a real power 460w- not a extreme or extreme plus. It is good enough.

Coming back to OP's query. Simple solution- add little more cash and buy gtx 260 core 216. It is worth the difference.

^^+1

get GTX 260 216 core...don't just lose a chance of getting a huge performance increase...u can use it for HD gaming too later if u are buying a HD monitor.

Im sure u meant the GTX 260 216 core!:)
