My micromax a110 packed up twice in a year . Will never ever buy Chinese re branded crap again . I'll stick to Samsung and nokia thank you . Apple and sony too are great .

Gionee like quite a few other Chinese Phone Manufacturers- is enamored with size ZERO phones- slim- thin- but this also results in a puny 2000 mAh batteries driving 5inch full HD Screens thru a power hungry Quad Core Processor- resulting in Paucity of critical battery power. If a phone like this to be used as a SMART PHONE- goodby to battery charge by 4 PM..My Galaxy Note 2 with its 3100 mAh. Battery is ready for the charger by 9 PM.. what is the use of a dead sleek, svelte phone with a dead battery ?..wake up GIONEE..then also why pay Rs 22500 for this when u can get a Galaxy Note 2 from Samsung with the best After Sale service in thousands of places all over India -and Best screen ever- for just Rs 4000 more ? Just unilateral price fixation does not sell phones- there is a thing called market reality..

@blr_p, Fashion Accessory , Since when is Gionee a fashion accessory? No one knows the company in India apart from a few chinese phone users or few nerds like us.
A common person will say "China ka Maal hain" immediately upon seeing the phone, no matter the internals, kahenge 6-10K ka hoga and not 22.5K

Since we are on the topic of Chinese phone manufacturers, aren't there any ones whose build & parts quality rivals that of the big names? Aren't Alcatel/TCL, Huawei, ZTE, Gionee supposed to be amongst the best? Any others?[DOUBLEPOST=1381115867][/DOUBLEPOST]

I thought Gionee was Chinese.... You say Chinese re-branded?

I meant karbonn micromax lava xolo etc :)

Oh ok.... Got it.

Btw, are lava & xolo the same Co.? & why did Intel choose to go with Xolo to enter the mobile market?

& is there no Indian Co. who does their own R&D, quality control etc?

AFAIK No, all these brands just give the orders to Chinese companies for the production, a sort of Job Work (ठेके पर), that is not the problem (even Apple does the same with Foxconn) but the parts used are inferior to cut down the cost and increase the profit ratio margin and 0% QC :)

Even the supposedly made in India Aakash tablet is nothing but some chinese crap.
These chinese rebrands have mouth watering prices but in terms of quality and customer service they stand no where to the biggies. They just want to sell you their device and never to see your face again.
And worst part is there are people out there who defend by saying, i am going to throw the phone within an year. They probably have too much money to burn.[DOUBLEPOST=1381120566][/DOUBLEPOST]Btw i am curious to know what happened to the UMI X2 or whatever the mobile was. Did people get the phones or their money back ?

So in the case of these Chinese-rebrand MMX, Karbonn etc. phones, is the Chinese OEM some no-name Co.? What I'm trying to get around is whether it's on par with or made by ZTE, Huawei, Alcatel etc.? Or these are unknown OEMs?

& are the Chinese names like ZTE, Huawei, Alcatel etc. on par with Samsung, Nokia, LG etc.? Many on TE have bought ZTE phones, so I'm assuming the quality is good enough?

Still curious about whether Xolo & Lava are the same Co. & why Intel went with Xolo.

Thanks for all the replies everyone & thanks for your time.

^ Xolo is an offering from the company called Lava - which is Lava's sub-brand. Similar example (Galaxy from Samsung, Lumia from Nokia)

I was going to buy a xolo q700 . But I read one of our te guys had a bad experience with them after the phone packed up in 10 days . Henceforth only top teir manufacturers for me . Learned it the bad way after my micromax malfunctioned twice in a year .

@raksrules, The story of UMI X2 is that I paid 500 in March 2013 as a booking amount, then I was told in 1st week of May 2013 to deposit the remaining amount 13,500 which I didn't deposit but many did. (Delivery Promise by 25th May 2013) (First while booking they said it'd be COD for the remaining amount, which wasn't the case) Visiting UMI India's FB page was the first thing in the morning for the people those who have paid the remaining amount, it'd didn't come till 1st week of July 2013 even after daily promises and people's curses, abuses to the UMI India FB Admin (No phone or customer support on listed number on FB page). Then started the refund process saying that whoever wants the refund can have it, (Only 13,500 which were paid at later stage and not the 500 preliminary booking amount)(No news of phone at that stage).

To summarize the whole episode 3 things happened:-
1) People who have paid the money(13,500, forget about Rs.500) got the refund after 2-3 months.
2) Few People got the phone after 2-3 months of the payment.
3) People still waiting for the phone or refund even now. www.facebook.com/umimobile :)

The funny thing in this whole scenario was that even after seeing the fate of early bookers / Payers / customers, New customers were still paying amount for the phone in June, July 2013 due to the mouth watering specs.

1. Yes, in the case of Chinese re-branded phones, the Chinese OEM companies are No-Name or very little known. The quality is not par with ZTE, Huawei (can't say about Alcatel).
2. The chinese names like ZTE, Huawei and Alcatel etc. are not at all par with Samsung, Nokia and LG. Many TEins bought ZTE and it was a particular model (ZTE Blade) because it had nice support and was relatively cheap as we didn't had these many options 2 years ago.

Chinese manufacturer like Oppo, Xiaomi may be able to compete with Samsung and its likes
