90K+ Good GPU pairing with a Ryzen 5 7600X/7700 (for 1080p/1440p)

Hello TE users,

I'm planning a PC build to be built later this year that consists of a Ryzen 5 7600X/7700 with an RX 9070 non-XT. Since my monitor is an ancient relic by this point (it still uses VGA), I decided to upgrade it too. Problem is, the space I have for my PC and monitor is high enough only for a 24-incher. There are no good 1440p 24inch gaming monitors on sale in India, and due to that, I changed to a 1080p monitor in my plan.

Now, the most important question is this: would the R7 7700/9070 pairing be capable for a 1080p focused build? Or should I go with a 1440p focused rig with a 7600X?

Also, my budget is ₹1.5 lakh (for the PC and monitor combined). Following is the original build plan attached for your perusal.

If you’re looking at 1080p then might want to go for 5070. 12GB VRAM is not an issue for 1080p and will have better ray tracing, at similar or even cheaper price. On top you also get all the extra features of Nvidia.

7700 is good enough for future proofing, if you don’t care about future proofing much, even 7600 should be fine.

Might want to go for a better motherboard for a 1.5L build.

Rest all looks pretty solid.

The problem is I have to factor in a monitor into that 1.5 lakh. I do understand getting a better motherboard, but fitting one into the budget is the hard part. As for the 5070, I'll consider it when the driver issues are fixed. Also, the bigger issue for me with an RTX 5070 is the 12VHPWR connector.

Would an SN770 as an OS drive work though? It was my first choice, but I backed off because it was DRAM-less. It fits your description (around ₹5k)

Yeah I have a DRAM-less SSD SN580, it has no issues in performance, but never had any experience with DRAM SSD.

I would go with SN5000 instead of SN770, just slightly better.

You can make a 1080p build with any configuration but since you are spending so much and making a good all-rounder gaming PC why not try to fit in a 27 inch 1440p monitor as well. What kind of space limitation are we talking about? Can you provide a pic (or just table/desk length). Also you used "high enough" for describing the space, Exactly what is going on? I want to see if we can do something about it since there is some leeway in your build as nothing is finalized yet.
Trust me if you have never used a 1440p monitor you will not regret this decision.
Just looked at your PC list and it seems like you have chosen 27 inch monitor there while saying otherwise.

Your config list looks fine to me overall, You can cheapen out on some components like fans because paying 1100 INR each for RGB fans feels expensive to me (or is that the normal going price in the market?). You can instead opt for ARCTIC P14 140mm fans @ 779 INR (on amazon right now). Only downside being they aren't RGB ones but they looks like an upgrade while costing less considering they are 140mm fans which will suit well on your PC cabinet.

SN770 despite being DRAM-less is one of the better drives out there. SSD with poor quality controller is actually not worth it.
Decide between 970 Evo Plus and SN770. You'll be good with either.

Here's my space for a monitor. Bear in mind that my current monitor is a 19-inch relic from 2008. I just measured the usable monitor height, and that is around 47.5cm. I should have inserted a 1080p monitor in the plan, but I failed to do it. It's a remnant of my old plan to include a 1440p monitor.

Now that I think of it, I'll take 2 of the 140mms for the build plan.

Funny you said 47.5cm because...... thats EXACTLY the height of the monitor (with stand) that you are looking for. Spec page
Not just that, since I own the same monitor I double checked with mine and it measured 46.5cm. The difference between both must be due to the tilt angle.

You're right. Maybe setting the monitor with your exact tilt angle and a bit to the front will allow me to use this monitor well.

So, just as a final question, would the 7600X bottleneck a 9070 non-XT in certain CPU intensive scenarios at 1440p or would it keep up? I'm more concerned about a CPU bottleneck, coz I play a bit of strategy here and there. I'm still a fan of the 9070 since it offers better value than a 5070.

At 1440p? I don't think so. Processors don't matter as much the higher resolution you go. At 1080p? Some games might do better with a better processor like the X3D ones (both the one you would want which is 7800X3D is way over priced right now, not to forget out of budget). The other higher tier ones aren't worth spending money on unless you do other multithreaded workloads or play very specific games that do need those extra cores like simulation games.

If you have some budget left over spend it on upgrading to 9070XT (approx 10-12k INR extra). As games get demanding you will enjoy some extra visual quality. Not to forget you can upgrade your processor later if its not sufficient and you get a good deal on the upgrade, which also to keep in mind will not require swapping motherboards.
