hey guys as i have bought a STX and i now wanna use the good sound card to its fullest so would wanan know which is the best headphones in this catogory

thanks

I think it would help the people giving recommendations if you could post your preferences in music and also the kind of music you listen to

Mate if you need pure game sound which is in Dolby digital I will suggest you to sell that soundcard(stereo soundcard for games and movies having Dolby digital makes no sense)

And get a Asus xonar dx and a triton axpro.damages will be around 15 k.

i like good sereene sound

like crystal clear etc and for games just general

I assume you are not familiar with all the audiophool jargon you might be soon bombarded with , cause you are about to spend a lot of money on a pair of high end headphones and most people who do so , know what kind of sound signature they are looking for .

Let me just start with a couple of simple questions . How much of bass do you like ? A lot of thundering boom / tight punchy bass kicks / light bass which can't really be felt .

Secondly , what sort of music do you usually listen to ?

Not to offend, but i feel you should first need to know what you want? As you are spending a considerable amount on the head phones, which may not be necessary

Ok so what should I do?

I mean any good places where I can test some gooodphones?

Also any particular companies that make any good headphones?

Also faheem I would like a bass which is like mediocre not too high but not so less that u can't feel it

If it were IEMS, i would have suggested Brainwavz M3. It suits your requirement, which is almost the same as mine.

I have no idea about headphones though. Faheem and the other audiophiles might be able to help you.

I guess going for something like the AD300 for now and then going for a better hp after better figuring out the preferred sound signature would be the best bet. I think they will sell easily too if the OP wants to get rid of them after getting a better headphone.

I am not sure if the AD300/700 etc will fit your bill .Most of them are pretty bass light. Also you need to decide between open /closed headphones.

open = usually more comfortable, wider sound-stage. sound leaks outside the headphone . Less bass .Less isolation .

closed = More isolation . slightly less comfortable compared to open cans .usually more bass .

faheem iam not very high bass guy but would like a bit of it like med-low bass for me

also what does less isolation and wider sound stage mean? ( does stage mean i can hear accurate sounds of differents things happening like footsteps etc? )

^ Isolation is the noise isolation you get when you wear the headphones . Open headphones have an opening at the rear of the ear cups ,usually covered with mesh/grill type housing . This results in leakage of the sound produced by the headphone as well as the surrounding noise entering the headphones. Basically it is best if you can use these type of headphones in a not so noisy environment and with less people around you (as they might get disturbed by sound leakage ).

This open nature of the headphones ,gives a more spacious sound feeling similar to small speakers you can say .This is what the wide soundstage is about . Its the ability to be able to pin point the different directions from which a particular sound is produced . This is one of the reason why the AD700 is preferred by a lot of gamers :)

oh so faheem u think the 700 would be best bet for me and would STX and AD 700 work good together? i mean would the AD 700 use the sound card to its fullest?

Paras, the ad-700 will work with any sound card or any source cause its light on power requirement.

Knowing the fact that you can spend on high end gear and that u already own the stx, try to audition the sennheiser hd-600 and hd-650. They are clearly well over your budget but it will be money well spend.

If not, your clear and obvious choices are the beyer dynamic DT-800 @ 600 ohms, Sennheiser hd-598, shure 840/940, or the ultrasone 900.(all recommendations are considering your choice of sound and requirement).

Im not getting into too much detailing cause it seems you havent heard any mid or high end audio cans yet. But do audition them with proper amping and proper source.

@ high end cans, they provide a home demo @ bombay. Check if the same can be arranged. It would be ideal since you can connect the cans straight to your stx and check the performance.
