good idea to use laptop with big screen??

Hey,
I have a pretty decent laptop, 2 gb ram, core 2 duo (2 GHz). anyways.. I don't play any games, maybe the occasional counter strike. I mainly watch movies on my laptop. since playing videos is my only requirement, would it be a good idea just to buy a good widescreen LCD monitor and a good set of speakers and connect them to my laptop?? do people do that??

If you have HDMI port in laptop then its best deal to do, Or else go with S Video or VGA port.
 
do u r lappy have a HDMI port to connect TV and lappy?

if yes, just connect the two and enjoy full hd movies with sound from TV
 
no my laptop does not have a HDMI port. is there a way that I can get one or its not such a big deal.

my laptop has a VGA port. is that bad??
