Good multimedia laptop < 50K

Hello,

I had asked the same Q last year but the plan for buying got postponed. Now I am back in the market and this time I just have to buy one as my Dell Inspiron is literally hanging by half an inch.

What's your Budget?

< 50K

What will be your primary usage for the notebook be? (e.g. web surfing/office apps/Casual Gaming)

Mostly home use, some photoshopping, XAMP programming, HD Movies, Hi res audio. I also need it to support a couple of VMs on it.

What size and weight considerations do you have? (e.g. Do you want a 17" desktop replacement or you want an ultraportable 12" or something in between)

14'' - 15''

Any brand that you prefer, or any brand that you detest? (e.g some would prefer to stay away from Acer or Dell)

Open to all brands. Would prefer reliability over everything else.

Any other considerations? (e.g Battery life; Widescreen/non-widescreen; Glossy/Matte screen etc.)

Prefer USB3.0, HD display, dedicated graphics, Good audio output (plan to connect it to my home audio setup) and reasonable inbuilt speakers.

Prefer having a blu-ray drive. Can I swap with one bought separately? What H/W config would I need to be able to do that?

From Flipkart I liked the following - Acer Aspire 5755G, Asus K53SD-SX110D, Asus K53SM-SX010D (http://www.flipkart.com/computers/compare?ids=COMDYW75GQVQHDZ8,COMD7WVHUZ6QPS5X,COMD7VPKTSFNFZWM)

Apart from Flipkart, what other retailers should I consider in Bangalore?

Thanks!

PS: Dear Mods, please let me know if I should have revived my old thread rather than opening a new one.

I will advise Sony Vaio CB45. It has everything you want with FHD goodness. Have a look at my review below. (CB45 is just revised CB35).

Thanks for the inputs...

The HP laptops look promising but they have Intel or Radeon GPU. Would that make a lot of difference for me? I am no gamer so do I really need a GPU on steroids???

Nice review JuGGa...very well paced. I checked the model in Flipkart, its around 54K.

Any thoughts on the models I had initially shortlisted? Especially Asus?

Which among the models mentioned here have the best display? (I guess it would be the Vaio)

Can I swap the optical drive for a Blu-ray on any of these?

Thanks!

Of all the models you have shortlisted, Asus K53SM-SX010D (with 630M) is best. And you're comparing the displays of models you have shortlisted Vs CB45 ? Man, the vaio has got 1080p display, comparison of diplay is not fair. even if you consider 720p, Vaio is ahead of them.

And yeah, of course you can swap normal ODD with a blu-ray one.

And you can get CB45 locally for lesser.

Okay...my Dell Inspiron's hinges finally gave up on me taking most of the bezel with them
