The standard free edition of Google Apps will drop its maximum number of user accounts to 10 from the current 50, for any new signups from May 10th onwards. For users beyond 10, you will need to pay for a subscription to Google Apps for Business.

The good news is existing Google Apps accounts remain untouched at the 50 user limit.

However if you are looking at Google Apps, this is the time to grab one before the 10th of May.

We recently announced upcoming changes to the maximum number of users for Google Apps. We want to let you know that, as a current customer, the changes will not affect you.

As of May 10, any organisation that signs up for a new account will be required to use the paid Google Apps for Business product in order to create more than 10 users. We honor our commitment to all existing customers and will allow you to add more than 10 users to your account at no additional charge, based on the limit in place when you joined us.

Yes, thats great. It shows that they care about their users. its good to see that new rules won't apply to old users, now go create 50 Email IDs.

But the sad part is that I only have one email ID, I wonder if a normal user will need to create 50 Email IDs ever. I think only businesses would require that. Just IMO.

^^ I have a domain mapped to the google apps. However the domain is going to expire in a couple of days. Will my google apps account stays intact?

Yes it should. I had it mapped to some NO-IP add which I forgot about, and it still sent me a notice on that account saying no changes to my account :)

It seems Google is trying to generate some revenue on Google Apps. in future, I expect them to further tighten free products.
