Luckily theres Microsofts domains for windows live, which seems to be pretty similar to Googles apps. Haven't tried it yet, but I will soon.

I am on very low bandwidth, I cannot check out the video. I'd appreciate if anyone can post the steps here. Will sign up asap ;-)

Alternatively, here’s a quick and simple workaround that will still let you sign-up for the free edition of Google Apps even though Google has officially retired the free edition – all you need is a free Gmail or Google account.
  1. Go to appengine.google.com, sign-in with your Google Account and create a new Application. You may fill in any dummy date and click the “Create Application” button.
  2. Open the “Dashboard” and on the next screen, click the link that says “Application Settings.”
  3. Scroll down a little (refer to the video tutorial) and choose “Add Domain” to associate a domain with your App Engine application.
  4. That’s it. Now you should see a special link* to sign-up for the free edition of Google Apps. You may either use your existing domain or buy one through Google Apps.

[*] You have to access this link through App Engine as Google Apps checks the HTTP Referrer information before serving up the sign-up page for the free edition of Google Apps.

I just created an account for 1 of my sites of Windows Live.
The entire process took about 20 minutes, including adding MX records, and getting my phone number verified.

The Outlook interface is as good if not better than Gmail. And Microsoft lets you give site users the option of creating their own accounts, plus you get skydrive for each user.

Setting everything up, including verifying the domain was much easier and far less painful than it was setting up my Google Apps account.

Plus I can have upto 500 free accounts for each domain!!!

Great, I didnt know about MS. Google Apps had become pretty much norm for small enterprises & sites.

I see huge potential for MS to grow in this field. I wonder why on earth Google stopped free apps as they can get plenty of small companies in India using their service. They could have limited to 2-3 email IDs from 5 as most websites will have 2-3 IDs like info@xyz.com & admin@xyz.com

Can you give step by step process for Microsoft set up or even online article will do ? Wow 500 free accounts for each domain, How come no one shared this thing till date & people were crazy about just 5 free accounts of Google.

Even I was not aware of the MS thing. Will give it a try. I already have 25GB storage on their skydrive.
I have all my 3 domains on Google Apps from some 3years back. Each account can have upto 50email ids. I will have the same benefits as before but I never found it too useful apart from user ids and for static parking pages.
