just rmaed my 1tb 7200.11 hdd which went dead(wont go ahead of boot screen) and got a 7200.12 1TB in return for free.
yay!!

Well, 2 years back I received 200GB RMA WD drive for free .Infact, I registered my drive for exchange(under RMA) on WD site and next day I went to exchange it with the dealer to get the same .Amazing thing was I never sent the defective drive to WD and after sometime got a new drive in the courier lol.

so 200+200 makes =400GB

+ u get 5 yrs warranty on the 7200.12!! thats a wow!!

if i am not wrong, the warranty remains the same as the old drive.
when i got a new hard disk from RMA, it had the same warranty as the previous one.

yup warranty remains the same..

however it was purchased in dec.08 so its hardly 3 months of less warranty.

also came to know about the specs of 7200.12 yesterday.

7200.11 hdd with sd15 firmware was 4 platter and this one is 2 platter with firmware cc34(each 500gb)

also better copying speeds,etc

this is made in china whereas the 7200.11 was made in thailand.

however i lost around 600-700gb of data stored on old 7200.11 hdd.

what he probably meant was that the 7200.11 will be having a 5yr warranty compared to the 3yr for the current 7200.12's, so essentially the op got a 7200.12 with a 5yr (- how old his faulty 7200.11 was) warranty :)

good to know that u don't regret the data loss. for me the data was more important than getting the HDD replaced. 500 GB seagate.

i have a separate 160gb hdd which is used to store imp. data.

used the 1tb hdd to store games,hd movies mainly which can be downloaded with my tata 2mbps night ul connection.
