Laptops Got a Toshiba Satellite L300, want to remove Vista and Install XP

BIG THANK YOU TO ALL

You guys have solved my problem. VMware is working like a charm. I need to do more R&D on it but my primary purpose of tally is solved.

I have a couple of questions though. Will it also support any USB connected printer ? Also is it possible for me to make the USB thumb drive available to both the main Vista and vmware xp simultaneously ?

Have you used it on vista? I have only used it on xp.

I read somewhere that vista has some issues with vmware not sure about it though

@rak007

As techie_007 already said give vmware a try it should work fine and if it still does not work out for you just get rid of it and install xp

but before you install xp make sure that you have all your drivers from toshiba's site The main problem these days installing xp on laptops is driver support.

@leo: Vmware Server 1.x had issues with Vista. 2.0 has been out for a while and is compatible :) Me still on Xp/1.x combo though, 2.0 has issues with Avira Antivir and thats the antivirus I trust ;)

@rak: USB printer should be ok.

Regarding USB drives, I checked with Vmware server 1.x just now. The drive will be visible in only 1 of the 2 at 1 time. You need to click settings to connect and disconnect USB devices to the vm.

^^+1

you can also use bridged connection in vmware for the xp and use the printer connected to your pc as a network printer. I haven't tried this but i don't see any reason for it to not work
