Got this tablet as a Gift. I am a newbie to android. It came pre-installed with 4.0.3 ICS.
DOMOINDIA.COM >> SLATE N9 SE
Specifications:
CPU-Cortex A8 1.0Ghz(Overclockable to 1.5Ghz) A close friend clocked it to 1,2Ghz(I dunno how) But its back to base 1Ghz. Should i overclock it?
GPU-Mali-400MP
Internal-6GB

I have no idea about Custom ROMS/MODs. Never used any Android Device. Although i saw @comp@ddicts thread though my tablet and i am a complete n00b so a new thread.

I have installed a few Titles and all ran perfectly. Got the apk and SD files from the internet.
PES 2012
NFS Shift
World of Goo
Angry Birds(Cae installed)
Osmos HD
Temple Run
Where's My Water
MX Video Player(Came installed)

Please help me out on this. What to do and what are all those JetMod and Roots i have been reading about on comp@ddicts post? What games can i run on this tab? What to install and what not to? Customs Roms and stuff. Please let me know.

First of all Congrats to have a tablet as a gift.

  • 1. You can pretty much your tab for browsing, play games, ebook reader and what not...
  • 2. JetMod is a name of the Custom ROM for Micromax Funbook, it will not work on your tab unless someone ports it or if this is a variant of the same chinese OEM, but I don't think so because your tab has only one Mali -400 and Funbook has Dual Mali-400 (you need to check more about it, I may be wrong) and Root is the process of gaining overall control of the tab (root as in Linux or admin as in windows). if your friend has OC'ed (Overclocked) means you must be having root, check whether you have an app named SuperUser installed in your list of apps. If you have then you are rooted.
  • 3. You can run all the HD games available in the market from Gamesloft (I'm not much in gaming so someone else may help you in this)
  • 4. You can install Games, apps and anything of your interest and try to stay away installing the apps which has pretty lower download or feedback count in the play store (google market) because they may contain some viral code.
  • 5. you can only install custom Roms if someone has ported ClockWorkMod (CWM) Recovery for your system and a custom ROM, till then you'll have to stay with the stock ROM.

Uses of CWM Recovery:
  • Needed to Backup your exisiting ROM (called as Nand Backup), Flash the new custom ROM, etc...
Advantages of Custom ROM:
  • Feature Updates, Fixes, Stock ROM improvements and sometimes complete Software Updates...

Yes its this - 1 GHz A10 Processor (Can be over clocked to 1.5 GHz).

- I dunno if its Dual Mali or not. Cause i am not sure I just read it somewhere and that too just once. Need to be sure about it.
- There is no SuperUser Installed on my Tab and sorry i asked my friend he told me i can overclock the processor to 1.2ghz as its given 1.5ghz i cannot it might give problems. Right now it is on base. So in short my processor was never overclocked.
- Is there any way to connect my tab to internet via usb? My Router is damaged/not working. Until i buy a new one please tell me about it. I read about Reverse Tethering app but on Google play it says the app is not compatible with your device. Till now i have been connecting to net via reliance connect to download apps
- I am not interested that much in gaming on tablet for that i have a psp and will soon buy vita. Rest do tell me about nice apps i should install.
- Is there any app to determine how much juice my tablet has? or what gpu/cpu it is using?
Also is there no way to download apps on PC and later transfer the downloaded data to my tablet? Its very irritating to download stuffs via tablet.

My Device shows Tethering not enabled. Where to enable it? Searching on Google shows 4.0.3 has not enabled tethering. Enable it using a code. Where to enter this code?

The processor is mostly unstable at 1.5GHz. Tried here too. 1.2GHz is the sweet spot (default for me)

I think the GPU is a dual-mali (MP2) afaik.

Well, use connectify on your laptop/pc where you are using the Reliance Dongle.

Some tablets support USB OTG with 3G data cards. Google it up

Download and install SuperUser from the marketplace

Guys my Tablet is pre-cracked. I installed Chainfire3D and a have used a few plugins to play games made for tegra etc boards. I want to backup my device for safety...How to do it. Installed CWM manager but how to backup. They say something to install manually. Please Help!

Earlier games were working like in white screen using chainfire3d and various plugins i've been able to play a couple of HD game now that are made for other chipsets. :D

Its called as Pre-rooted and not pre-cracked in android, glad that you were able to install CWM, now boot to CWM and select the option of Backup and restore and select backup from there, Download this and allow root permission and you can boot to recovery from it

Sorry Pre-Rooted. Use to crack Symbian s60 phones. So called it cracked. Although i tried running CWM ROM Manager but it says install CWM Recovery but it does not install instead gives me an error saying that It won't install untill recovery app is available for your Device(Domo N9SE) or have you done it manually. If i select Yes it shows 2.x or 3.x+. If i select 3.x+ The application hangs. Have to close it. Now what to do?

I checked whether my Tablet is rooted or not via an application. Root Check. Said Congratulations Your Device has root access.

Try the XDA link, if your Tab is variant of Funbook or Player Momo then you'll have CWM, you can follow the instruction from that thread (I said if because I'm trying to search very hard but I couldn't find any article saying this tab is a variant of chinese OEM player momo, so can't guarantee you anything)

Don't worry brother i won't be accusing you of anything. :)
I've done all this kind of stuff on psp, symbian and windows phones and i know the risk. Its just that i am new to android. Rest i'll search a bit more myself and will also try to ask on xda.

Guys any other games/apps i must install on my tablet?
 
@Altair - Chill take it slow. Even I tried to do everything in 1 hour. Messed up my head.

But the next day I was all set. Now I'm exploring the OS, the devices, the apps till I have a good Custom ROM to flash.

lol mate. I'm taking it slow won't be doing anything recklessly. :)

I've installed multiple games and apps. Dead Space and Spiderman Total Mayhem gave me Graphics error showing white screen. Fixed that via Chainfire3d Marvelous app. Installed Plugins and done. :D
 
^^ What plugins did you install? I thought of installing Chainfire 3D but was apprehensive in case it screwed something up.

So after installing ChainFire 3D, what plug-ins need to be installed, and where can I get them?

Did a lot of research wasted 1 hour first to verify whether my Device is Rooted or not. After Verifying followed this in particular. Worked
Chainfire3D : An Applicaiton For Rooted Android Smartphones

1. Download Chainfire 3D from Google Play.
2. Install and open Chainfire and install it. It will reboot your device.
3. Download the plugins from here.
4. Copy them anywhere in your SD card.
5. Open Chainfire 3D-> Install Plugins. It will search for the plugins. Install all of them.
6. Then go to Default Open GL settings -> Use Plugin -> PowerVR(Best for playing 3D games on my device) Rest if soe game gives error switch simultaneously. And before using a plugin do remember to 'force stop' the app from settings before.

Couldn't Find a Landscape fix for this game. Will buy it later on. Till then i'm playing Assassins Creed
