i have got my cowon d2 16 Gb for 12.5 K from Palika Bazaar, Delhi (got it from official dealer, with bill )
it was pricing above 13.5 K everywhere online.....
had even asked from kmd...he told something about Price = Rs. 9,700/- + Charges For local Shipping
[without warranty as Cowon India doesn't provide warranty on items bought from outside India (quoting from cowonindia.in) ( dint want to buy this much costly product without warranty)]
that was in festive season offer in US....don't know what would be the price now...
Believe me...its an amazing player....far better than ipod....
few of its awesome features :
52 hrs audio playback & 10 hrs video playback (no other player offers this much battery),
one of the best audio playback quality, stereo surround, bass, equalizer & all that, though i am no expert but will say 100 times better than ipod,
you can directly move to any position of song or video playback using touch screen (not like ipod that u keep scrolling),
voice and line in recording,
tv out, this is really handy, i frequently see movies and tv shows on my tv using this, picture quality is surprisingly good even on big screen (u have to buy cord separately, costs about Rs 600),
fm tuner,
touch screen,
unique stylus which also works as stand,
great 2.5 inches screen with great picture quality,
only 91 gm,
comes with charger (both US and europian type),
no lock in to any software (like itunes or zune) (simple drag and drop or sync with any other player or in Operating System),
SD & SDHC Class 6 card slot supporting upto 32 GB,
avi playback (though u need conversion, but with winavi converter life is so easy, it converts 1 Gb avi file to 250 MB file in 10 minutes with awesome quality),
upgradable firmware,
few cons :
files browsing interface could have been a little better (hope of improvement with new firmware in future),
bundled headphones just suck (was aware of this from reviews), you definitely have to buy a new one (Creative EP-630 is the best bet under 1 K),
no mp4 playback (quite lot of podcasts are in mp4; but the net effect is null, as different videos are encoded at different config, so best option wit every player is to convert videos to your own config, this also allows u to save this disk space),
buttons on side of player are little difficult to use when the player is in your pocket, but with time it gets easier for u
why not ipod ?
only 5 hrs or 30 hrs of audio playback,
no touch screen (ipod touch is costly enough not to be compared here),
no SD card slot in nano (not comparing ipod classic as that is too heavy (140 gm) and hard drive based (so u can't go jogging with that),
lock in to software (itunes) , no drag & drop,
no charger included, you have to buy it separately (this really pisses me off),
finally everybody has ipod....aren't u sick of seeing ipods everywhere....
Why not creative zen or X-fi:
not comparable battery backup,
no effective use of SD card slot as the files on card don't integrate with main music library,
no charger included, you have to buy it separately (this really pisses me off),
no touch screen,
Why not Zune :
Not available in India officially, so no warranty,
can't use as removable drive,
no touch screen,
least battery backup,
will buy Transcend 16 GB SDHC Class 6 Card from ebay to make it 32 Gb....(costing about 2 k after applying discount coupon )....
posted all this as it may help people looking for PMP's or ipod.....also to make my 4 day internet search for "best PMP" should be useful to other people
