Dark nemesis, the old CBZ if well maintained is a very strong performer and a very good handler too! However spares are slightly difficult to source and expensive. Fuel efficiency is around 35-40kmpl and the engine is not very refined. But for sheer performance, fun factor and a beautiful exhaust note(for a 4 stroke single) few can match it.

decided to go for a new bike, but now I am again confused about which one to buy!!
have 2 very different bikes in my mind. this is my first bike, so I am not sure what to exactly look out for.
I am confused between Suzuki GS 150R and Apache 160/180
I love the suzuki one, but I am not sure about it's performance. As it's top speed is around 102 on paper but every other bike claims at around 120. Also, it's 13.7bhp as compared to 15+ of apache..
I love the fact that the engine on this is refined and smooth, but would also like to go for a powerful bike
Pulsar is a big no no for me..personal opinion..
Any suggestions?

i would say go with suzuki very smooth max speed i have clocked on frens is 115-117km great mileage too 63k per lt and 6 gears,,,

I test rode the apache 180 and the suzuki GS today.
Apache 180's power was uncontrollable!!! had a bit of problem with shifting gears as I was wearing sandals. The braking is superb, and the acceleration is mind blowing.. It will take some time to get used to it's high power!!
on the other hand, the suzuki's engine was super smooth.. The heel shift is a blessing.. It accelerates like any other normal bike, so no surprises here for me..
so I am still confused.. considering the fact that this is my first bike, should I go for performance or refinement and mileage?

apache acceleration rocks awesome it is ..but if u ok with leaving acceleration compared to gs and want comfort + mileage then GS FTW ... coz i have gone for long rides and apache hurts my back :S

I think out of all these choices, i would suggest suzuki.
Apache tends to shake alot at high speeds, more over where are the roads in bangalore for u to drive at higher speed, Apaches are know to be uncomfortable, good for high speed, the light weight of the bike makes it more unstable on the road, ur prone to skids and shakes, if ur driving style is risk taking (sharp turns, high speed) u might attract accidents n skids once in a while, if ur a cool head then the choice is urs.
suzukis engine is very balanced, the bike has a good grip on the road, mileage is very good, stay away from yamahas and pulsars at any cost.
wider tires are definately a plus for stability and good grip, but remeber it will put more pressure on the engine, personally havent driven any of the new breed of yamahas, wide tyres will also take more effort to zip through n attain higher speeds, tyre experts can chip in n comment on this

fz is more stable and looks better and has better low end power, and is better in the curves.
apache has better top end but vibrates like crazy when you go fast.
i say go for fz its more of a fun bike to drive, and if you feel that its too much leaning in front, just put on pulsar handlebars and you wont get a backache like my dad did.

Test rode the bike, felt the vibes, but that was manageable for me.. Loved the rest of the features of the bike.. so went ahead and booked it..
If not RTR, I would have surely gone for the FZ.. decent performance with top technology and Yamaha Reliability..

congrats on booking the bike...and i hope u do understand as time will go , the vibes will increase......the vibe problem in my pulsar has made me call it quits to it, bikes under cover from the past 2 months, cause the vibes are so bad i'd rather walk....to lessen up the vibes i suggest you ask the service station guy to 'add' additional rubber dampners to the engine-chasis mounts.
