But I am interested in this too.... planning to upgrade from onboard gfx :(...

had a geforce 6600 before sold that off....

PS: i will have a HX620 next month with a 945 mobo.....height of unbalanced rig... :D
 
None of the cards are viable option at 1280x1024. I myself owns a 8600GT and I find it just about OK.
Wait for latest ATI price cut to take effect. It will reflect in a week or so and then go for 3850 (256 MB). It should not cost you more than $140+shipping or whatever.

But if you must buy from this lot, with $30 mail in rebate, 8600GT sure looks the best bet. Second best in 2600XT with $30 mail in rebate.
 
its for his 7 year old nephew :P secondary pc. so he will have to let do with this :P

8600GT is overall better performer in games. but 3650 is not that much slow. runs lot cooler. WIth the cat 8.2 even 3650 seems to have received welcome boost in performance. And overall its better multimedia card, so if in future you wanna use this pc as media box, get 3650.

but 2600XT has GDDR4 won't that make a difference? :S

Not much, the card isnt bandwidth starved to begin with. Afaik the difference in the GDDR3 and GDDR4 versions was just abt 5-10% max.

I suggest you up the budget and get a HD 3850 or a 8800 GS, both of which cost $140. For just a bit more money u get a card thats at least twice as good.
However if noti d suggest the 8600 GTS for $109 as punjab said
 
a card for a 7yr old....86gt/3650 shud be enuff..atleast he nt gonna bug u with "why set aa at 4x only?" :bleh:
 
I thought i would be able to tackle generation gap well in my old days, i am 21 and this 7 year old "MAN" is already giving me goosebumps...... :O

What do u think u used to do when u were seven or in standard 2??

I used to play hide and seek with cute girls(though i realised this after few years) and used to learn cycling :ashamed:

Hold onnn, did someone say he is gonna play crysis :S

i used to play nintendo snes when i was 7 years old :P

he needs only car based games but the rig is a gift to become a great uncle in his eyes :tongue:
 
Any point in getting 8600GT via KMD ? Or am I wrong. Saw a Palit 8600GT 512MB locally for 5k all incl :)(XFX 256MB was a bit cheaper)...nt as good a cooler as MSI one....but with an 8600GT its nt much needed as well :P
