If i were you, i'd rather settle with present card and wait for DX 11 card which is goona launch in Q4 2009, that would be the worth upgrade from 10/10.1..:)

i hope 4870 512MB on Dell 24" won't dissappoint you till Q4..

Yes, 100 pc true, that's what I am gonna do. You will end up upgrading anyways after Dx11, till then 4870 will last you good.

But if you must must have an upgrade, go for 4870 CF - It won't burn a hole in your pocket + It will give better performance than any of the aforementioned cards in singular.

Fair enough guys... u stopped me from taking a foolish plunge, how bout i xfire with my 4850 which just lying around?? cant find any benchies on them, no idea how it would scale...worth a try though!!

^ why not give it a try. though you might face Stuttering in some games as clocks on 4850 & 4870 are different. you can either overclock 4850 or downclock 4870 to have them @ identical clocks only if you face stutter.. :)

Been there, done that. The results weren't convincing enough for me to keep it. I noticed some framerate issues for me - micro stuttering. But keep in mind that may not happen for you.

Because of lack of time -
1)I CFed 4870 1Giga with 4850 512. My 4870 is OCed. So basically it automatically downclocked to 4850 frequencies.
2)The drivers I used were released in Sep 08 ( MSI edition ).

Since then the official ATI drivers have improved CF scaling. Btw you have 512 4870. Just give it a shot if you have both cards, and show us the results.
I wanted to put up the scores but couldn't due to some constraints.

Crossfire the 4870 and 4850....

overclock the 4850 to try match the clocks somewhat....

Save up the cash and wait till November....... Then the GT300's will be out...\

grab one then....

But by then the 4870 and 4850 that you have will depreciate like shit....

if you are not getting much time to game.. and if you are ok with the present quality of gaming,

Sell off the 4850 as fast as possible.. save up some cash for the DX 11 cards..

just my opinion...

All the best..

you can touch abt 720/1000 from your 4850, that would be pretty high anyway. Then try and cf it. Should be nice. Wait a while and you will get good deals on all the above mentioned cards as a lot of us will start going for the next generation. Meanwhile this is more than enuf for your current requirements. I have just got a 4870 today till maybe sometime early next year.
