I know this thread is going to fade off in a couple of hours, (owing to the fact that we have very little xBOTS on this forum :P) but what the hell?

This game deserves a thread of it's own, so be it. I just started off with The Ballad of Gay Tony and it's freakin' awesome. I can't believe no one is playing or even discussing it out here.

So am I going to get some response or is my echo going to bounce in this thread? :ashamed:

i am upgrading my system just to play this from 2 months.
thats why i purchased MSI 4850 512MB, CPU Cooler CoolerMaster Gemini2 plus, Corsair XMS2 800MHz 2GB RAM
i love the whole series of GTA.

finished Gay tony & Lost and damned a week back . Excellent stuff mate. Much better than so called MW2.

Enjoying Assassins Creed as of now & i must add that it is pretty decent as well. Much like a refreshing change. Infact its astounding that for they have managed to get such good GFX for an Open world sandbox Game.

damn i dont have neither a ps3 nor a 360, sadness. but i do have original GTAIV on PC, i hope the expansions come out on it as reportedly some info was leaked past week.

Did you have the same shitty grainy effect in The Lost and the Damned? It looks really washed out.

Anyway how long did it take you to complete both of them? I mean only the main storyline wise.

^ I think you can turn off that effect via settings or something .

I have had the game for almost a week now .. but haven't played yet .. MW 2 ftw !

The grainy effect is there as a feature of TLAD , but it can be turned off under visual options. Id say story vice , TLAD took 4-5hrs , whereas TBOGT took little over 6 hrs . But being the pack rat i am, i finished all the side quests & finished TLAD in 11 hrs whereas TBOGT lasted me an amazing 16 hrs.

On a side note , Assassins creed 2 is almost as long as the original GTAIV & is very very good. In fact im enjoying it more than Episodes from Liberty City. IMO its easily the game of the year on Xbox 360. followed closely by Episodes from Liberty City.

I completed The Ballad of Gay Tony yesterday and it was freakin' awesome. It took me a healthy 12 hours for the main storyline. Rockstar certainly know the true meaning of DLC. They synced the storyline properly to GTA IV. They also gave a proper closure to the Diamonds at the end of this game. For me, Yusuf Amir was the most hilarious character in this game. It was a carnal relief to have checkpoint system between missions and we didn't have to redo the whole mission again.
Now off to complete The Lost and the Damned and I figured out how to turn off that sh*tty grainy effect, the game looks much better now. :eek:hyeah:

Better on consoles? PC version destroys the console version by a long shot. I recently installed it to check how it performed on a Quad processor and to my surprise, it worked flawlessly at max settings and looked amazing. I was able to max out every slider bar to the peak and the frame rates were extremely consistent during night (Ballad of Gay Tony). The day time though it showed a slight frame drop, but was perfectly playable. This game really scales well with a Quad core processor and a video card with higher VRAM.

Considering the time when the game was released its performance was worst on most of the pcs. Now i cannot praise a game if i can play it with all its glory after 5 years of its release date. Even people will be able to max out metro 2033 after two or more years. Then will that be considered as a good optimization?
Its really a shame that i cannot play a 4 year old game properly when i can play most of the recent games better than gta 4 in the visual department with almost max settings.
Moreover GTA IV & its episodes were a mess for pc with rockstar social club nonsense. Still i don't know how its multiplayer matches are. There is no such nonsense in the console version. Again considering the time period resources available at that time etc etc i would say it's performance is better in consoles and speaking about visuals they are very acceptable, moreover i like the trophies!

Well the same was said about Crysis, when it was released. Most of the PC's could barely produce acceptable frame rates, nut people still managed to enjoy it. Most of us at that time cribbed about poor optimization, yet it still proved to be the benchmark title for most high end configurations. I barely scraped through GTA IV on my HD4850, but I still had a blast with the game. That's not even my point. If you're purchasing a trilogy pack at this moment and then comparing the game's performance for what it was when it released hardly seems like a fair thing to do. Besides, this was a straight-up console port and unlike some developers who provide bare-bone options, Rockstar still gave a size-able amount of graphic customizations.

Don't get me wrong. I have played and completed Episodes from Liberty City on my 360, as I could not wait for the PC version to arrive. But when I saw my brother playing it on the PC, after it released, I really wish I had waited for it. The graphical improvement was easily noticeable. It looked sharp and vivid and the frame rates were more stable. If I'm not mistaken, PS3 version of GTA IV had received the most flak for having poor frame rates and fuzzy visuals.

I think you are getting it wrong.
Let me explain. I too have completed GTA IV on pc and the performance after adding/removing tons of patches & wasting a lot of time on tweaking it became stable i think have finished it with high settings too and the average fps i got was around 40s when on foot and around 25 when driving.

I don't know how its unfair. This is a fact and it cannot be changed with time. Moreover none of the previous GTA titles were a good port and if you ask people or GTA fans they will tell the same even today.

Coming to crysis ethan you are comparing two completely different games. Crysis is something different according to me crysis still looks far better than 95% of today's games. It really distinguished itself from other games with high quality cinematic visuals. During its time barely a handful of people could max it. In GTA's case the settings was not a matter the performance was almost same for all the settings .
Now if you compare GTA IV's visuals to crysis then it doesn't even comes close to it. The funny thing is even it is less demanding than the former.
Now what we have in GTA IV? Only the performance improved?
Honestly GTA IV is worst when compared to vice city, GTA III and san andreas. I and many others will still prefer vice city.
If I'm not mistaken, PS3 version of GTA IV had received the most flak for having poor frame rates and fuzzy visuals.
Yes i heard that too. I think the people who were telling this might not have played bayonetta on it. Its okay. Btw for games like GTA the most important thing is how it plays and really i still feel that it's control system is poor too.
I actually had given up the idea for playing EFLC but since we don't have much good games now and have heard good things about TBoGT thats why thought of trying it. Otherwise i wouldn't have even cared for this game.

I'll make one last attempt to seal the deal on this one.

Back when it released, I only applied an command line tweak file which made the game relatively smoother and playable. Zero patches were released on day one. The frame rates you're providing is much better than what any of the consoles offered. Both consoles were locked at 30 frames and could have dropped below that at various points. Since we don't have frame rate monitoring on console, we'd barely notice anything.

I meant why would one even bother purchasing a game which released 4 years ago and keep pointing out how it performed when it released. What's the point in that?

You're purchasing the game on the PS3, when your current configuration may handle it much better, not to mention being cheaper. But then again, your recurring issues with GFWL on the PC may have swayed your decision, which is understandable.

As for the earlier GTA games, I never heard of any performance issues being reported on them. My friend was able to max out GTA San Andreas on his 6600GT on release day, when it looked absolutely horrible on the PS2.

I'm not comparing the two game, as that would be quite absurd. I'm merely pointing out the "optimization" aspect. Just because one's hardware cannot handle it at that point, does necessarily equate it into being unoptimized. This game scaled well with Quad core CPUs, so dual cores would have it's fair share of issues.

Now what we have in GTA IV? Only the performance improved?

This game wasn't meant to be a Crysis killer. Hell, going by GTA's past graphical track record, we shouldn't have even expected such amount of detail in this game. All the previous GTA games had a cartoony look. Besides there are mods which can be applied to make it look 10x better than it's console counterparts.

I actually had given up the idea for playing EFLC but since we don't have much good games now and have heard good things about TBoGT thats why thought of trying it. Otherwise i wouldn't have even cared for this game.

I loved The Ballad of Gay Tony more than GTA IV. It sported much better visual theme and also had hilarious set of characters. You'll love it. Can't say the same for Lost & the Damned though.
