Am getting the Dell 24 LCD in a weeks time, wanted to ask the Gurus here what graphic card do i need, am basically a Photographer, so wud be transfering editing etc the photos thru the PC on the Dell 24, Or i dont need any graphic card? Plz advise.

for editing big photos what you need the most is a good processor.

graphics card i guess a 4850 should be more than enough. No gaming i am assuming.

WHat are you using now?

For 2D quality, you dont need expensive graphics cards (unless you really need GPU accelerated CS4 which is not something even most photographers will be looking for ).

I prefer ATI's 2D quality over Nvidia at the moment. The HD4xxx series seems to have more accurate colour tones which look natural by default. NV output on screen feels little cold. ( you can fiddle with digital vibrance, but i wont recommend it for a photographer who wants accurate colours on screen )

You need a better monitor and not a great gfx card... If it is the TN panel monitor you are getting, no graphics card will help you get the colours that you will find on an IPS or S-PVA panel monitor

What is a TN Panel Moniter??

TN(Twisted Neumatic) is a type of panel(the viewable area of the screen). LCD Monitors with TN panels donot provide accurate colour reproduction.

You should purchase the Dell 2209WA which has an IPS(In-Plane Switching) panel. It's not 24" but it's the best monitor you can purchase for editing photos.

The graphics card is of minimal importance compared to the quality of the monitor(or more specifically, the quality of the panel).

I assume, you might have to print out photo's aswell. In that case, a graphic card is essential for 2D..As shripad sir reckoned ATi for best 2D quality, you can go with Sapphire/MSI HD4350 @ 2.5k.. :)
Btw, could you mention which motherboard you own?

Ok here it is, Am getting the Dell S2409W LCD, and my System runs on the Intel DG31PR motherboard with Core2Duo E4600, with 2gb 800fsb Ram, Btw heres the link to my work.

You could also consider Apple Cinema HD displays, they are brilliant. Probably the best I've ever seen. Pretty expensive though, a 24" one will cost around Rs. 50,000.

Do one thing, skip the graphic card altogether and cancel the Dell S2409 order, and get the Dell 2408 instead.

GIGANTIC difference in terms of image quality and colour reproduction.

Good stuff! Try using a Polarising filter and hood when shooting in daylight though, it'll help cut down the sun glare/flare and minimize reflections off glass surfaces.
