I hv ubuntu Breezy badger installed on my amd64 with gigabyte k8m800 mobo...had problems with the graphics as UBUNTU BB used the vesa driver for my onboard Unichrome pro graphics card....which gave me very sluggish performance....wasn't able to change the refresh rate, it would show that it has changed the refresh rate but actually there would be no effect...

VIA support for Linux is very bad,the xserver-xorg module tht they gave didn't work...
Finally after searching the extensively got the Openchrome drivers for it...
They are working okay but CPU usage goes to around 40 % if i play the any divx 720x540 resolution movie...

Any solutions to this problem....

hey Opensource geeks reply...
Anybody having same board and got succes in installing the module which performs really well....

^^Did you try playing a normal MPG movie and checking CPU usage. Playing DIVX generally eats around 25-30% cpu so 40% is not a whole lot more. I've never used that board unfortunately.

did you enter the monitor frequencies, hsync vsync in the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file.

enter the correct settings, dont mess with it.

The normal mpeg1 movie is using 20% cpu timein my ubuntu BB...
I want to know tht anybody installed or found some good graphics drivers for this card....want similar performance as in windows...

@chaos-- in windows a divx movie with 720x540 res movie uses 10-15% cpu time only---I use ffdshow.

@Hacker I didn't do any changes to xorg.conf....Just found openchrome drivers for it...as the default via module which shud work, doesn't actually works...So installed openchrome drivers for Unichrome pro graphics...
