GRID - uncontrollable rides

GRID is by far the most awesome racing game i've ever played. It's not arcade and it's not simulation, and frankly, i coudn't care less, it's just @#%@%ZOMG!!!11 fun!

OT:
Turn all assists off, especially stability control or the cars will feel as if they have no weight, you can keep traction control on depending on which car you're driving. In drift mode, ALL assists off highly recommended.

I went from hating the game to absolutely loving it, the learning curve is a bit steep if you're used to NFS, but give it some time, the game is a gem.

Keep Revving~ :)

SO u can patch incase u wna play Solo.....
But for multiplayer, Version 1.0 is Most recomended

hmm tried the various settings you guys recommended ..

quiet a lot of improvement in normal races( not that i win,but atleast complete races :p)

but in drift races....just cant drive..whole car keeps spinning at the same place. :(

Drifting is an acquired skill, keep at it and you'll improve. The first time I tried drifting i sucked so bad...which was shocking because usually drifting is my specialty, but with a lot practice I've managed to get a max drift of 40 million at 41x :bleh:

Holy Smokes !!!! 41x !!!!

While drifting, you will spin if you let go of the throttle suddenly mid-drift as all the weight shifts towards the front.
Keep applying some throttle mid-drift to balance the car.

~50x and ~84 million is possible in the first set of races - IIRC the drift battle at Ebisu.

To drift, approach wide and tap the handbrake to enter the turn. Tapping the throttle and steering together and alternately will get you through the turn. I recommend keeping traction control on for drifting, and using lots of opposite lock to stabilise the traction. Remember - opposite lock and throttle will keep you drifting in the direction of the initial drift, opposite lock and easing off the throttle will straighten the car out. Very similar to a real drift, IME.

Turning in the direction of the drift will first oversteer the car (throttle off) and then spin it (throttle on), so is not recommended. You have to lose traction and then stabilise it, using the car's power to keep the traction at a constant level. When done, ease off the throttle to straighten the car out and approach the next turn. Remember to start the drift a little bit before the turn, at what you think would be the braking point for the turn if you were normally driving. Never brake, it doesn't help.

The Silvia is better for some closed circuit courses and the Corolla for the wider tracks. All the other drift cars take some time to get used to. Actually, drifting is one of the more difficult things in GRiD and I remember cursing it as I had moved from NFS drift to this one and found it exceedingly difficult. I had to practice (inadvertently) in my own car before I could get the hang of it.

I found driftin easier with assists on than off! Maybe i missed something or the other. Or it might have been the tracktion control.
if the other advices sounded complicated(way i felt when i read such things), just brake, turn in the right direction wildly, then turn the other way before u lose control. The amount of brake and turn should come to you in some tries. Just use the first round as practice round.

I don't really know about that, but the fact is it's not too tough to push a road car into a drift. The tough part is stabilising it afterwards, and since I wasn't intentionally drifting the priority was to get the car stable again, not hanging on to the slide. That's a story for another day

I basically used the same trick. The power needed to counter the correction is a little unreal, so it's still quite unrealistic. But you can use the basics.

I never faced any such issue while playing GRID on my pc.

As for driving style..i prefer to take a wider line around a corner while carrying a little extra speed through it.

One corner i can never get enough of is the chicane at the end of the lap at Le Mans... trying to carry as much speed through that corner as i can is my favourite thing about that track.

The 1968 endurance version is a monster with the original Mulsanne Straight, too bad you can only use the Nissan and the Mazda 787B and not the Audi R10 TDI on it.

I am playing this game now and loved it so much! NFS has never been this fun.. I play NFS without taking my finger from the accelerator and finish all races. GRID gives you the "real" feeling of being in a race.
I do not think it is totally uncontrollable. I use a Keyboard and I am able to control the car with brakes, etc.
The best racing game ever!

I've just started playing this game, playing it since yesterday..
but I don't think that the graphics are that good, and I don't want to talk about the car control in the game:mad: (realistic or not but it IS Difficult),
no offense to all the GRID lovers but even the NFS UC control was a bit same initially, though it improved as the game progressed.
Even though I have started winning the races now. My strategy is to overtake (by smashing into) other cars at the first turn itself,
that way you'll have the entire track free for u, and the AI seems a bit dumb, hardly anyone overtakes!
May be I've got used to the NFS series, but I am not going to leave this game unfinished.
And the most important thing I liked about the game, the Flashback..F12 feature.:eek:hyeah:

@ $#@#@nk please don't try driving or playing Race or GTR series. I bet u won't complete a lap in them w/o a black flag or wrecking ur car. Grid is not a real sim racer but similar to NFS Porsche which was a mix of arcade and simulation to make it fun and challenging at the same time. Also no story crap just pure racing makes it my favourite. And I am looking forward to more releases from Codemaster especially F-1 and then Fuel.

@prabs
it is better to keep on trying until you get it right
apart from that, one should never try to imitate in real life what one does while racing, and imo driving a car in real life is easier than controlling that damn BOSS
:)

EDIT: I was completely wrong about the Graphics part. The way the skyline changes during Du Mans was mind blowing.:jumpy:
And when I thought that I had mastered the way to handle the Boss, I crashed while driving the 911
