Its an individual preference, If you ask my opinion then JD works fine along with browser native download managers.

I am using JD for many years now , and it works very fine , not to mention its docker ready.

I started off with DAP or Download Accelerator Plus, it was IDM before the IDM. Even if I need to download a big file like a Linux ISO, I don't see my downloads breaking and inbrowser downloads are just as fast too. 2-3 gb iso downloads in under 5-10 mins for me over 200 mpbs connection. If I occasionally need to download something as big as 10gb or more, I would use FDM, it's a free alternative to IDM and works well enough for my usecase. It's missing some features but I don't seem them as important.

In my case, my browser still breaks when I download large files(20GB+) as in after 50% or so it doesn't download anymore and even if it downloads, it's slow(in Kbs), so I use IDM.

FDM is free and without any ads. It also supports torrents. Check it out and see if you really miss IDM.

Thanks for the explanation. I mostly download youtube video and I don't know if it is possible to download youtube videos from the browser. And sometimes when I download large files, if there is some connectivity issue, the downloading stops and I have to download the whole thing again. I have started using jdownloader for now, But the video quality is not same, their is some quality difference between the 720p file on the website and the 720p video that I download.

For youtube, the best option on the internet is yt-dlp. It's a command line tool and has a learning curve, so if ease of use is your priority, it is not for you.

But if you want the absolute best quality and fastest download speed, then you got to try it once. Just download yt-dlp, download ffmpeg, extract ffmpeg and put yt-dlp in the same folder. Then go to the address bar of that folder, type 'CMD' and hit enter. In CMD window that opens, type this : yt-dlp [youtube URL]

Copy paste that url without the brackets. Hit enter. That's it. It will download the best quality Youtube server has. If you want options like different resolutions or convert into something else, find them here: https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp

Again, if you want ease of use, this is not for you. Try FDM or JD maybe, they are more like IDM.

IDM
Open Video Downloader 2.4( Original)
Open Video Downloader 2.5.4 (fork)
Stacher

When downloading the same quality from youtube , IDM gavethe largest , then fork , then original then stacher
Dont know the reasons
