Will a p4 ht proccy is enough to play gta4(of course its not released yet:ohyeah: )... No matter i got a 8800GT(if my budget allows:hap2: ) or 9600GT by the end of Sept.. So need 2 know abt the proccy.... coz i m not in investing money in proccy for now.. May be after 6 months or so. so please let me know..

ofcourse it will be playable if thats what you need albeit maybe at a lower graphical settings....but all this is just speculation....i dont think rockstar has come up with system requirements yet for GTA4....when they do then only something concrete can be said...

But there is a speculation that a dual core is the min req to play gta4... Is it so?

does anyone even know the minimum system requirements of GTA IV (PC) ? if no then you should not answer questions like "will GTA IV run on my PC"

why can't you guys just wait for the official minimum system requirements of GTA IV (PC) before asking such silly questions ?

Be cool friend.. I am in hurry to save my money to invest in a proccy if they decide that gameplay is excellent with dual core... Otherwise i invest the whole money in getting a 8800GT or even a HD4850!! Thats why i put the question here and that doesn't mean i cant wait. I must wait until the game and not after that. So a precaution... thats all..:ohyeah: .

So let me get this straight. You plan to save & invest in a processor if they claim that Dual core is a must for GTA 4? And later on will have more money to invest in a graphic card which is let's say either a 9600GT or an 8800GT, right?

A.) Most of the current games are stipulating a good dual core processors for smooth gameplay.

B.) Let's assume even if GTA IV doesn't mandate a dual core requirement & you get a HD4850 or an 8800GT, you do realise that your PIV going to bottleneck most of the games you play to a great extent, right?

C.) Yes an upgrade for your current processor is a must if you ought to buy a good graphic card later on.Not with GTA IV in mind but all the other games coming out in Q4 & post that.

One more thing, from your current sig I guess you will have to upgrade your PSU too.:P

Then tell me proccy+gfx card for around 8k.. it may be extended upto 10k but not much....

One question ethan_hunt.... How u tell me that my proccy is going to be a bottleneck for the gfx card...Will u pls explain me?

Lookin at the graphics on GTA4 on the X360, we shudnt be surprised to see demanding min sys requirements for the PC version but knowing Rockstar, the game shud be pretty scalable. I dont think ur proccy would bottleneck ur sys even if u buy an 8800GT or HD4850 but u shud definitely upgrade ur power supply for sure. So save up for a new videocard and a PSU instead of the proc.

Thanx for the reply..
But why such conflicts with the answers...
One members says that my proccy is a bottleneck the GPU and u said that not..

That's because I have seen it happen.I had visited my friend who once owned an X1900XT coupled with the same processor you have & was playing Tomb Raider Legends on full settings & it yielded him around 28Fps.Once he shifted to a Core 2 Duo E6600, which is his current processor, the FPS sky-rocketed to around 50-60FPS if I am not mistaken. So you see the vast difference was merely because his processor had heavily bottlenecked his good graphic card.

The games depend both on GPU & CPU, if you have one weak link & the other as the better one, it's obvious the former would bring down the latter in terms of performance. It also depends on what resolution & settings you play at.PIV isn't the best in terms of CPU when it comes to gaming.Heck even the AMD Athlon single cores used to outnumber them in gaming.Trust me there would be a massive difference if you purchase a dual core/quad core CPU & couple it up with a card like HD4850/8800GT rather than having weak performance with your current processor.I can't give you an exact numerical break down of the performance but CPU is an integral part in gaming.Do keep that in mind.

@Ethan Hunt:
Thanx for ur advice.. Should i opt for a E2180 which can be overclocked upto 3GHz.. Pls let me know the price.. and i like to buy HD4850 in october..So plz suggest me a brand..@ low price...

Depends on your budget. The quads are going very cheap so if you can afford them then nothing like it.Sure the E2180 can OC till 3Ghz but the question is can YOU overclock it to that extent? Are familiar completely as to how overclocking works?

As for the HD4850, I own a GeCube myself & it's pretty much has the same reference design just as most of the other brands do.But newer models are coming out with double slot coolers & even custom coolers so you might want to watch out for that.If October is your D'day for the card then wait till then & then pick one as there may be better options later on.

Want my honest opinion save up as much as you can till you want to really upgrade. Then spend properly on a good overhaul rather than purchasing a CPU now & going for a card later. If you are mostly concerned with GTA IV then wait till the game comes out & then invest in your upgrade.Whatever you do keep a separate fund aside for your PSU too.;)

Everyone have their own opinions and both can be right, its how intepret it with your query. That why we have such forums

P4HT may not bottleneck low end GFX cards, but if the min requirment of GTA4 is a dual core, then the game will not allow to install it if the requiremnt are not sufficient

U can invest in a AMD X2 4000+ and a cheap motherboard and with 2GB RAM, this should come around 5-6K, then get a 8800GT(should be 100$ by Nov) + POV 500W SMPS and u can game GTA easily
All this in mind that u will play only GTA and other similar games..Dont blame if you cant play Crysis/Farcry.

Anyway i m gonna buy e5400 on its arrival since it just around 3k ..
And i decide to buy a HD4850 by the start of October.. SO no worry in playing gta4...
CoolerMaster 450W-2000/
OR
Zebronics 500W - 1k
Which one is good?

bottleneck??.....take eg...i upgraded from 7600gt to 7950gt extreme on my venice 3000+....got aquamarks score of 55k odd...even with an OC of 2.5ghz.
no difference wen i switched to 7950gt.....upgraded to x2 3800+ got score of 75k+ on default 2ghz...overclkd to 2.7ghz got 100k score in aquamarks3..
