Better safe than sorry.Going for a low end PSU & repenting later on is not something which is advisable.Invest in a better PSU if you want your hardware to be safe.Trust me you don't want to end up frying any of the components in you venture to save some dough.

Then how abt PowerSafe 500W that u have....

^^errr ethan ur powersafe gold 500w can handle the rig with 4850??...:S
It sure is working fine right now.No issues. It handled the 7900GT perfectly.I might just upgrade this PSU later when I probably upgrade to a Quad processor which would be sometime early next year.Till then this should do.

I don't know what's the current cost of my PSU but why not add in a few hundred bucks & get a better one than this.I stuck to this PSU because I didn't want to upgrade my PSU for now.Plus it doesn't even have a default 6-pin PCI-E connector. Are you shoestringed on your budget or something?

Then save up as much as you can.Don't shy away from getting a good PSU.If you want to risk it then be my guest. The CM 500W should be around 2.6k which is again a dual rail PSU with combined rating of 32A on +12v rail. This should cut it for now depending on what processor & card you're planning on buying.

dude, u aren't sure about your budget and requirement...are you ???

one post u say u are in shoestring budget and now u want to buy 8400/4850

Better is to decide what type of gamer u are(casual/hardcore), what type of games u will play and what is ur budget and then buy the config according to that

A good SMPS is a must, don't cut corners there

If you looking at GTA4 and few other games, buy a normal dual core solution and settle with 8800GT and get VX450

Then ask this query again just before u plan to buy, you will get different choices. Save your money till then. Fix ur budget and requirements and hit the forum

Also whats ur monitor size and resolution u play on. This is an important factor to recommend config

Welcome onboard gamer :)
