Hi. I have planned on a new gaming rig. I had asked suggestions 2 months earlier itself. But due to some problems, i could not buy the rig. But with new 5xxx series of ati, i have some confusions. I've planned on buying core i5 and msi p55 gd 65,
1. I want to play GTA IV at 1280x1024 at high settings with AA and AF, for that is a gts 250 better or 5750?
2. If i buy a 5750, can it be crossfired with a 5770 later on when i buy a new 22 inch lcd?
3. If so, is Glacial Power 650 sufficient for crossfire?

My budget is upto 9k.

I would suggest a 4870 1G for 9.6k

lot better than all options. im playing farcry2, shift, ut3, batman, hawx and many others in maxed out quality in full HD with AA and AF tuned off most of the times on my 4870.

4870 512 and 1G differs by only a margin of 5% in all games except GTA4. SO if u can live with slight drop in GTA4 performance , then get a 4870 512 for 8.8k.

And yes, GP 650AA wud be enuf, for a 4870, 5770 CF with an i5.

Ati 5750 is not even worth a thought with a price tag of 9.5k and performance lower than GTS 250.

If you want DX11 and futureproof that badly go for an ATI 5770 11.5k

Else ATI 4870 512mb - 8.8k will do.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I've heard that GTA IV requires more than 512 MB of video memory for some high details. 4870 1Gb is out of my budget. So, will get a Zotac GTS 250 1GB card @ 8.1k.

No terrible misconception.........ATI 4870 512mb will beat the hell out of GTS250....believe me....:hap2: GTS 250 is competitor to 4850 and not 4870....

hey why don't u buy a used hd 4870 1 gb instead that's on sale in the market section, wid a free hawx game i guess!!!!!!!!

give it a thought,it will be in ur budget....

Isn't a 250 sufficient for 1280x1024?

Also, a benchmark on pcgameshardware.com shows the gts 250 beating 4870 in gta 4 @ 1280x1024.

would you be playing only 1 game for the next 1-2 years???? If yes then surely you MUST go with gts 250

I'd strongly suggest HD5750 over 4870.. Though little slower than 4870 but you can overclock 5750 to get most of it.. DX11 for future peace of mind :)

I guess GTA 4 is long enough for some ppl to drag for an year or 2 :p

Buddy, if you have a 512MB card the game will not let you set highest settings and hence you need at least 640MB to play the game at max details.

I'll play gta 4 for at least 3 times like i've done with previous gta games. Along with that i want to play other games also like prototype. But gta 4 is most important for me.

Ati 5750 can hardly beat GTS 250. It comes nowhere near to ATI 4870 by any chance.

Yes ATI 5750 is future peace for mind but believe it or not a gfx which is coughing to beat a 4-5year old architecture G92 revamped into GTS 250 , what good will it do later ?

Safest bet save some more money and get ATI 5770 - 11k for future DX11 games.

If not then ATI 4870 - 8.6k ( 512mb ) . Excepting GTA 4 all games fare well.

GTA 4 is nothing but cpu eating gpu gobbling unoptimised console game for pc.

Please don't base your facts for only 1 game .

Ok. I've dropped the idea of 5xxx series. I'll try to stretch the budget and get 4870 1 gb.
For how many more years can games be played with dx10?
When will nvidia's dx 11 be unleashed?

No buddy....5770 is only little slower that 4870 and 5750 is comparable to 4850 only...but I do accept that 5750 has a lot of advantages...5750 @ 9k is not a good buy....it should be in region of 7k...

Only DX 11 games will take about a year to get fully mature. Nvidia's DX11 card is expected to be out by mid-late Q1 2010. And for the initial few months the prices will be exorbitant (as was with 5XXX) due to low supply.
If budget is that big a problem try finding a 4850 1GB should be around 7~8K or like someone said get a 2nd hand 4870 1GB.
Your call.

I would suggest GTX 250 if you want to play PhysX titles like Batman Arkhum Asylum, Mirror's edge, etc. ------> Better VFM at the moment

Or i would suggest HD4870 512MB if PhysX doesnt matter alot to you. ------------> better for future

HD5750 is highly overpriced at the moment and isnt recommended at all.

4870 should be good for one more year for HD for majority of games. As and when DX11 comes (which shd take at least 1-1.5 years to become mainstream), I think you will need to get another card or be happy with DX 10. :)

On my present rig(see my sig), I play all games maaxed out at 1920x1080 except crysis(gamer settings, no aa, 16x af), gta 4, and shift(which I dont care about anyways). All other games play in excess of 85 fps(even COD MW2 is giving me >100FPS at 1920x1080 maxed out and 4x AA). So, I think we should be good for an year or so. :)
