i have the Palit GTX 260 core 216 Sonic version.

yesterday,..suddenly while playing crysis, my comp went off and when i started it back,..it could not go past the welcome screen on my vista x64.

now i dont know the reason but i cannot start any games or even aero. whenever i start any of the above, the screen goes blank and the only way i can go to the desktop or boot safely again is to uninstall the drivers from safe mode and then install them again.

i have tried:

1)installing all the versions of Forceware Drivers from 178.24 to 185.85

2)re-installing my Vista x64 :(

Another case of Palit Card going bad? :(:@

Should i RMA it? or can something be done other than that?

I bought a Palit 4850 ans it went bad in 2 months after long hours gaming. Lol, my shopkeeper said you're not ought to play more than 4 hrs / day. Lol

Anyways, since you're able to boot into safe mood, it looks like drivers issue more than bad card. Try re-installing the latest one

Blank .. completely blank and fan at full speed or do you have a few artifacts? Try the bios do you get artifacts after 5-10 mins of keeping it open?

Check the power connector to the Card. Is it seated firmly? Then try with a fresh OS Vista 32 (make a temp dual boot) and see if the issue persists. If yes, RMA.

hmm. palit cards on death spree....

i never liked palit. there are so many brands around. y buy palit.

EVGA (the best but costly), xfx, asus, msi, saphhire, powercolor, diamond.

so many to choose from.

waise its just my 2 cents. ppl here might not agree.

yes,..completely blank and the fan is spinning.

and yes,.the artifacting has started. it was not there initially but after a while it has started.

i haven't got much time the past couple of days(currently on backup card),will try resetting the mb bios and report back.

power connector is allright, no issues there. i also tried removing both of them and inserted them again just to be sure.

and any particular reason for suggesting 32 bit vista? i have installed 64 bit a couple of times.

@vrd, this is why I went for MSI.

I'm not saying all palit's fail, but the general opinion about palit till a while ago was that, it's a crappy brand.

If nothing is burnt, you'll most probably get an RMA. See the card's box for the distributor sticker.

I think palit is handled by mediaman in India. Mediaman Group of Companies

@mohit

Got the card from phoenix.he told me to contact tirupati. i have contacted the tirupati drop off centre here in pune. if indeed the card is bad, will send it asap.

Update drivers to 185.somethin. Download riva tuner and/ntune monitor ur card temps etc. See if anything is wrong. And ur PSU?

the card is defective i guess, you will need to get it replaced.I had the same problem with a new sapphire 3850, it used to boot up fine and even go into windows but when i tried installing the drivers, it never allowed me to and it would not go into windows after installing the drivers it was just a blank screen, i never had artifacts. When i emailed Sapphire support, they said the card is defective. I guess the same thing happened to you except it happened after a while

Its been observed when something doesn't work people prematurely declare it as "sucks" and "defective". People here are pretty much telling to RMA the GC without doing certain things properly. Everybody should know the RMA is a painsticking procedure depending on the issue. If the card working on their end, they give it up. What's the point- you are wasting time and level of patience? How would you people feel if same advice is given to you. When the OP gives the GC for RMA, he will need to be 100% confident that it is the GC issue.

What's the stop error code you got on the BSOD?

Google and install driver cleaner pro. Unistall GC drivers. Boot to safe mode and run driver cleaner pro. After cleaning it up, boot to normal mode and install the latest version of the drivers. Besides you havent given information about your complete hardware including the psu- I dont know how people are blaming the card before knowing the necessary facts. How can a logical flow of troubleshooting can be given without the essential information?

As per the details given by OP, i totally suspect that the card needs RMA.

my config is:

q6600

asus p5q pro

corsair vx450

(sorry,.it was in my sig earlier but i removed it)

@Sorcerer

everything was working fine for about a month since i got the card and then it suddenly stopped. and i am now using the same system with my backup card. Hence, i was suspecting the GTX 260.

will try using driver cleaner pro.
