The present battle is strong and after going through many reviews i still didnt find a clear winner.

4890 has good OC capability, its cheaper, in load its more power efficient, it uses DDR5, works on Directx 10.1,
Same time its looked upon as almost OC version of 4870 by a many on web.

275 - more cooler, more silent, PhysX, Cuda support. but on DDR3, and not supporting DirectX 10.1. Most importantly its from Nvidea so surely has better driver support as and when any new game is out.

Also as is said by many reviews 4890 is better performer for screens 22" and less. GTX 275 real power is seen on resolutions supported by bigger screens.

So personally little split as i dont see my self not upgrading beyond present monitor, what are TE members views??

err get 2x Zotac GTX 260 Core 216, 10.2k each (Amarbir), performance similar to GTX 295 and only 3k more ?

BTW U need new PSU, if current 1 is extreme series 600W.

GTX 275 has an edge, as ideal power consumption is lower. But if the price diff between the two is significant, go with the cheaper one.

I agree. CM extreme series is crap, utter shite...

^Reiterating that a gazillion times over and over and yet, new threads and posts come up with the same query: CM Extreme Power 600W vs Corsair VX450. :|

After seeing the reivews GTX 275 ideal temp and power consumption is lower than that of 4890. but viceversa under load.

@sidhu

PSU is also under operation :) ... working on it... step by step my friend... PSU hunt is on ... looking for 800+ but none available....

@muzux2

its a 19" viewsonic , pretty basic nothing fancy.... i feel anywhere spend sooooo much time on comp that anything bigger than 19" in close proximity of desktop and too much staring etc would make me blind so would only stick in that range

@gannu

we werent discussing PSU... and it was just a comment Sidhu made on seeing my config and the querry...

@simulation

sorry you are right me went vice versa

@Sidhu

am already think of system temp a lot.... just wondering what an SLI might do ... so thought instead of even 4850 cross fire or upgrading a 260 SLI ... i rather had one GPU card but a notch above

Confusion confusion...Go for 4890...it will be good for your 19 incher...

And 700 watts is enough if you need not need to make a SLI/CrossFire rig even with lots of fans and hdd.

^ on 19'' your existing HD4850 is enough. Dx 11 cards will be on shelves within 6 months. Investing on 4890/275 on 19' isn't a good deal over 4850..:)

+1...Rather if you have money to invest get yourself a Corsair HX620.

@LBM & Muzu

umm you got me thinking ... if windows 7 which out to be better than vista by the initial beta..... directx11 has to be better than 10 which in my view had no big jump over 9. people might argue but then its just my pov.

how about getting another 4850 and crossfire :D and 700-800watt psu :)??

If you're really looking for better bang for your buck...

don't buy a graphic card right now.

You're running on 19" monitor with 1440x900 resolution, you can't get any better than your existing 4850. Even CF won't bring much difference as it's only efficient at higher resolution, not to mention that too in selected games.

Plus, CF will increase your power load, temps... IMO, it's not worth it, really.

Instead invest in a good PSU right now... get yourself VX450 or HX620/TX650 (for future expansion). As new gen cards will come in H2 this year, you'll have better option to spend your money on then. Plus, having a good PSU now will ensure that you won't have to worry about PSU when you buy your next graphic card.

Spend wisely.

errr... Y r ppl with gud 620W smps thinking of buying the 4890 or GTX275?

Guys, Have u forgotten the 4850x2 1GB for 14.2k?

dsnt the 4850x2 beat the GTX 275 and the 4890 ?

PS: im toking abt ATLEAST a 22" Monitor. Below this, a single GTX 260 core 216 is more than sufficient. And for 19" -> HD4850 is enuf.

@Igo

only reason actually till now i havent gone for 4850 CF is becoz of heat.... and more over the aftermarket coolers which would support a CF arent easily available.

Accelero coolers are too huge and get in the way of CF too

as for 4850 supporting resolutions you guys are right it sure does...........

but try playing Mirrors Edge on 4850 with even AA n visibile horizon also at low and you would realize why the itch to upgrade. 4850 is what may be 8800 or even good old 8600 was year ago. They even today too play almost all the games...

I got a friend who is playing Fallout absolutely fine on 8600GT.

My reason was smoother game play...... as i had mentioned before I agree holding back GPU rather costlier GPU buying for now is wise decision.

So just to improve gaming may be look around in market at TE itself n get another4850... was on my mind... and then the heat

ahhh this itself is paradoxical

the reviews show that both the cards overclock about the same(in terms of %ages which makes the main difference,gtx275 being slightly better),gtx275 runs hotter and hence less noisy than 4890 and ati cards handle higher temps better than nvidia cards so you can assume parity on that part.gddr5 and gddr3 make no difference,though the high idle power usage of 4890 is attributed to gddr5 clocks.
phys and cuda might help in future if there are more gpgpu apps and high budget games supporting physx,dx10.1 can yireld better IQ and/or better framerates(20% by amd's marketing division).driver support from both sides is equally good,imo its a fallacy to believe that nvidia always has better drivers for newer games.

How about taking people's advice? Sit on the 4850, simply buy a good PSU and wait.

@vandal

thanks for ur words,

i heard what people said guess u didnt read what i wrote on top regarding the limitations of 4850
