Storage Solutions guys need a 500 gb hard drive

guys i need a 500 gb hard drive as my :hap2: 2mbit:hap2: from mtnl has started, so gonna download as much as possible, guys but I am confused between seagate, samsung, wd, hitachi. So guys which is the best one out of them, which is the co. that has perpendicular recording technology. thanks guys
 
WD is also has good after sales service, got my drive replaced 2 times, no questions asked after an online rma
 
Hitachi would be a good bet but almost 500 bucks difference between WD and Hitachi pricing ...

the WD zhops got recently is a good buy, scores 70mbps in hdtach if it matters :)
 
and buy only one 500gb.....when u do fill it up in 3-4 months time. get another one... lol.(if u download religiously everyday..and dont delete much.. lol :P)
 
i agree buy only the 500gb , get the WD drive i got my cousion one and hes very happy with it. but remind you the seagates are faster than the wd according to bench marks. But you could also look at a 750gb drive from WD check out its review on toms seems a great drive. the wd 500gb was 5.8k when i got it.
 
if u want the drive just for pure storage, get a seagate or WD or Hitachi 500gig, else wait for seagate 7200.11 :)

and i second what chicu said :P

Edit: the 500gig 7200.11 drive uses 2 platters of 250 each....

I dont have a lot of trust in HDD;s after my first one died taking all my precious downloads and memories with it :(

Get a fast writer, and some good DVD media :P

Shows how much technical knowledge about computers these guys have and how much they research into such topics. There was an article recently on violence in video games in Pune times...and the guy was mentioning games like doom and Wolfenstein! :P I mean none of the games he mentioned were less than 5 years old!
 
well i have it on both my HDD n DVD's TY is coming soon to me. and then i even plan a wd 500gb external usb dirve the one that sells for 8k or so. it is a good idea hows the performance of it any idea guys ?
 
i mean it it better to get this , or get a wd + transcend casin . in both cases i spend similar amounts . budget 8k for the whole thing. any other suggestions
 
^^ Stick with this, atleast this way you have a solid casing designed for this purpose. Also for lazy peeps no need to put the HDD in the casing and all :hap2:
 
lolz . no no i need it for the purpose of back up of my other 500 gb . i cant actually be risking it. i dont ming the speeds being that coz the one with firewire is like 2k more afaik. any one can confirm prices for it ?
