Nemesis: Sorry to hear about the loss
i remember when i had come to bombay at my moms place and had to travel by train the rush is just insane i think its high time the govt changes the train to the automatic door system it will help a lot i feel
secondly i feel there is a huge diff bet people driving fast and driving rash people always confuse these 2
also its not always the drivers fault!!!! mostly the indian people cross without even giving a damn to check if someone is coming they just cross and expect others to stop for them, some even show arrogance by looking in the wrong side while cross on highway wtf:@ and then end up meeting with accident and later be the first people to blame saying driver was fast wtf open your damn fukin eyes while cross and value your own life if nothing else

secondly i dont believe in the saying that if you drive slow you wont meet with accident its BS cause especially when you riding slow these other vechiles overtake you just at less than an arm distance and you basically put your life at the mercy of their judgement which is the last think i would do

according to me you need to be alert which i feel is a lot more important then just the speed.i feel it get risky only when you cross 80 it all depends on the driver actually

Very sorry to hear the loss. I too refrain from hanging at train doors. I have had a fall once when i was like 10 years only and i jumped out of a running train and that too in opposite direction of train motion and had a hard fall, but luckily it was away from the gap between track and platform. I tell my brother too that he should never try all those adventurous stuff on train.

@hhhclihh Speed DOES matter. Your times to react are reduced drastically at higher speeds. Also, the vehicle takes longer to stop. It is common knowledge.

rofl of course the people are so arrogant that they are willing to get run over for it... who are you kidding?

@lord - really sorry to hear this mate. My condolences. Hope God gives them strength.

Back to topic, @hhhclihh - speed does indeed matter. If you are riding slow even if the other jackass is in high speed, the chances of getting injured is less as compared to when you are in speed. Don't be ridiculous, it is simple science.

Just see what this guy is upto :

:@ :@ :@

Once I fell from a running bus, actually it was driver's fault. But I learnt a lesson & after that I never tried to get down from bus unless the driver has stopped it completely. I never drive my bike fast & I always go slow. I have been humiliated by friends many times as I cannot drive faster. But, heck, I don't want to die in a road accident. I always try to follow traffic rules & never cross the speed.

I request you all to share this video :

according to this, More than 50% of Mumbai's population travel by local trains. 853 out of 4357 people die every year due to train accidents.

I say again, never do stupid stuff like all these. Think about your family & loved ones. Don't drive fast, it may be thrilling to you, but you may kill some innocent. Please.

Very emotional and sad moment. :| My condolences & may the soul R.I.P

As in mumbai locals, we have got into habit of getting down even before the train halts and thats due to the public standing behind us. Mind you guys, severe accidents have happened in such cases also where 80% people lost their legs by sliping down the platform underneath. I have witnessed this quite many times. And its very true, that "if not for us, atleast for our dear ones we have to think twice before hurrying ourselves". :cool2:

I have literally slammed and allowed back people to alight first by saying " pehle tum maro, fir mai tumhare laash pe pair rakh ke nikal jaunga" hearing this some people feel ashamed and rest as always get more arrogant.;)

Horrific and saddening :(

May his soul rest in peace and more than that may your kins have the courage to tide over this.

Had seen a man crossing tracks and train hitting him with full speed. He swung into air like a ball.

As per statistics, on an average 10 people gets killed everyday by Mumbai suburban train.

Really sad.

I don't understand why one should 'LIKE' the first post! :S

I mean, I have great sympathy for the OP and his cousin and family and at the same time appreciate his concern for others.

But he has actually narrated a sorrow of his life and people liking it seems pure lame...

@ OP: There is nothing that can be done for your cousin and family now... I am sorry about that. But I would like to thank you for bringing up this issue and appreciate your efforts in trying to prevent such an incident from happening in some other person's life. :thanx:

They have appreciated the fact that the OP took time to post a warning sorts over the obituary of his cousin. The thread serves as a reminder or a warning for those who do frequent commutes over the local trains or come across railway tracks daily. I don't personally see any harm in 'liking' the post.

agantuk
that exactly the reason why i said it depends on the driver ability

chiron
alright then how do you explain a person who first doesnt bother to see if a vechile is coming while crossing and then later on looks in the opp direction or run recklessly even after you horn????
and i never said they willing to get run over they are of the idea that the vechile should stop for them rather than seeing if its safe to cross

avi
i know there is a risk when you drive fast but does it mean you wont meet with accidents if you drive slow there are a hell lot of drives who drive extremly rash you just end up being their victim
drive slow is safe will only work if everyone obey it but thats not the case

and guys by the way am not endorsing drive fast is safe it all depends on the driver am just trying to say that driving slow doesnt always mean you gonna be safe it alot more necessary to be alert not only the driver but also the pedestrian who's crossing

OP: Sorry for your loss. But still thank you for sharing it with us.

I would like to say a few things on this regard.

I cannot comment on train mishaps since i hardly travel in one.

I am an avid biker and i do not support racing in streets.
Speed does increase the risk of an accident and the line between riding/driving fast and rash is very very small. Usually riding/driving fast may invariably lead to riding rash due to unavoidable circumstance.

Also i would request everyone here to kindly wear atleast a helmet whenever you are riding anywhere, be it to the next street market or a long ride. As someone said riding slow or riding to a nearby place does not guarantee you a safe ride. There are always other morons around who share the same road with you and cannot read your mind about this fact.

And kindly avoid talking on phone while riding/driving. I can understand if the local illetrate fools do not follow any of this but recently the trend in riding in cities has become very worse.
I am currently working in bangalore. Here majority of people have little to no road sense. Everyone is impatient and seeing motorcycles riding on the footpath is more common than seeing people walking on them here. Many of us who are educated and crib about our politicians etc. do not even think twice before taking a call while riding/driving. If us so-called educated people cannot follow simple rules there is no point in even attempting to change the attitude of the whole nation, majority of whom cannot even spell education.

A couple of days back while riding to a friends place, i saw a guy wearing proper formals and wearing a laptop back riding on an activa and talking on a cell phone with his left hand. He was hardly aware of the road and almost hit me and another car next to him while doing so. So i went beside him and requested him to not talk on phone while riding. He immedietly blew his top and started abusing me in kannada (which i do not know) and as usual started saying the line that all us indians are very used to say in an confrontation. I told him it was for his own safety and safety of others as well in english and he now started to abuse me in some crap broken english. I Thought that there was no use in arguing here and simply moved to the other side of the road and started riding. The worst part was the guy in the car who was almost hit by the activa and the other people on bikes following us started laughing at me.

The reason i am bringing this up is to show how ignorant we are about safety measures and how the comman man's mentality is in this case.

However in past i have advised people the same and some have actually smiled and promptly hung up on the call.

One needs to understand that the road is not yours alone because you had paid the road tax and is shared by all.

That being said, it would be totally farce if i said the people walking on the road are always right. In my years of riding, i have seen so many people jaywalking on the road.

They see you coming at long and try to hurry up, suddenly realise that he cannot make it and try to go back and then suddenly again realises that it will be better to keep going again since the oncoming vehicle has changed its direction as well to avoid hitting him.

How many of us have taken the subway or the overhead bridge to cross the road. We instead try to jump the griding in the middle of the road instead of taking them. We think other people are fools to do that not realising we are the fools actually trying it. Once we do accomplish that we get a false pride of accomplishing somthing supremly impossible.

Well sorry for the rant but hopefully atleast one of you who has read this, stops using cell phone while riding/driving and starts wearing helmet.

Peace!

^I read your post & I fully agree with. And yes, it has becoming trend & seen as cool while talking in bluetooth headset while riding bike. People even hear songs with IEMs plugged in. And they never hear person honking the horn behind
