Hey folks

I am interested in getting Hair transplant done...I have a receding hairline, not too bad, mostly covered but density is less

Anyone @ TE have done it before. please share your views

Please mention the surgeon from whom you did this and the experience/results

Any Dermatologist(Skin Specialist) can do that procedure easily!! :D

My father is a dermatologist and i've seen him do that procedure! :)

I'll ask about it in detail and let u know!! :D

He said that there's a success rate of 80% nd also 20% failure rate!

as in 80% of the time the transplanted hair are retained w/o probs!!

I'll ask him in the evening when i get home!:)

A family friend who was bald got transplant. They planted seeds on his scalp and he says it was a painful procedure... But the result is superb.

nope ..

hair weaving is wen the already present hair on ur scalp are stitched (fixed) in a way to mask the bald patch.

For Example if u get it done around the region where u did ur parting, you cannot see the scalp there after hair weaving like u usually wd have.

Notice Amitabh bachchan never sporting a parting offlate??

Hair Transplant is self explanatory.

It could be performed using a donor's hair or ur own hair (usually from back of ur head).

I would suggest not worrying about it. Grass don't grow on a busy street, as the saying goes.

Eat healthy, exercise frequently, drink lots of water, smile and laugh your way through the day. Your attractiveness doesn't come from something that women don't even get to see unless they're taller than you anyway ;)

If you have uniformly receding hairline then you can wait for the hair transplant because once transplanted hair loose company of original hairs it will look like trees of coconut around the beach.

Whats if your age?

Where do you reside?

In transplant generally your hairs are taken from back of scalp just above the neck region. Because those hair are never lost due to natural reasons.

Surgeons take out thin strips of skin including hairs, then they take out every single hair root and transplant it onto the bald area.

Its not much painfull procedure but tiringly long procedure. Its bone breaking for the surgeon to do as its really cruel to fingers / hands / and spine of surgeon.

Once transplanted those new hairs will take anything from 3-6 months to start regrow. As donated hair are not much successfull that concept is fast dying out. As transplanted hairs from patients own body generally acceptance rate is very good you can expect above 90% hairs to regrow.

Look for experienced Plastic Surgeon / Cosmetologist in your area.

From here:

What is the difference between hair weaving & hair transplant? What are their side-effects? Which one is the safest? How much do they cost e.g. 2 cm radius?
A. Hair weaving is the use of an artificial wig which is applied to the bald area of the scalp. It is an artificial attachment, kept in place by clips or other such appliances. It is totally different from Hair transplant which is a procedure by which the hair are transplanted on to the bald area of your head, which subsequently grow like normal hair, need haircuts, never fall, can be combed, oiled and shampooed and are permanent. It is a procedure of Hair Restoration.

Both procedures are safe and have no side-effects. It is difficult to give you an estimate without seeing you, but a radius of 2 cm would cost you approximately Rs. 20,000/- for a hair transplant. The weaving, being an artificial procedure would be much cheaper.

It is like after assessing your scalp skin doctor will (under local anesthesia) take up a piece of your scalp skin with hairs from the back of your head(occipital region).

Then you may be shifted back to your bed or recovery room after stitching the wound.

Doctor and his team sets on dissection whole skin parchment in claring every one hair out of it with hair root. when this is done.

You are taken back in to operation table local anesthesia given to bald area and then another tidious procedure starts.

Doctor pokes / inserts a big needle onto the area where new hairs are to be put, after that needle is withdrawn slightly and from beeveled edge area one hair is glided in to the skin a small instrument. Needle is withdrawn and hair sticks there.

After sometime the part above the skin of hair transplanted wears of, at about 3/4 months the new hairs atarts to regrow.

During the initial 2 weeks your scalp looks like a small POLKA DOtted cloth due to haemorrhagic spots of needle insertion.

Remember these new hairs never fall again in their lifetime so you almost never become bald again and you can take care of them as well as normal hair, infact they are the normal hair of yourself just shifted to a new home.
This is the best I could put in common terms, and its not that much painfull.

I dont know anyone in chennai, who is renowned. If you have some doctor in your circles / family ask them.

Before you select your doctor do take multiple consultations and also meet personally to some patients who have recently underrgone the procedure within last week to get the first hand knowledge how you will find yourself.
