May 18, 2007 - Half-Life 2: The Black Box is no more. The package, which was to offer Half-Life 2: Episode 2, Portal, and Team Fortress 2, has been officially cancelled by Valve. The Orange Box will be the only collection offered when Episode 2 releases this fall. Priced $10 higher than the Black Box, the Orange Box adds the original Half-Life 2 and HL2: Episode 1.

"The Black Box has been cancelled," said Doug Lombardi, Valve's director of marketing. "We're going to have one package, The Orange Box, available on the PC (US$49.99) as well as the 360 and PS3 (US$ 59.99). In addition to the three new products -- Portal, Team Fortress 2, and Half-Life: Episode Two -- The Orange Box will also contain the full version of Half-Life 2 and Half-Life 2: Episode One. Those who purchase the PC version of The Orange Box will get three separate Steam product codes: One for the three new games, one for HL2, and one for Episode One. This way a PC Orange Box owner can give away their Half-Life 2 or Episode One unused Steam product codes if they don't need a copy of those games. We are excited to deliver the highest value of new gaming content ever offered in one box."

They might as well put Half-life source, opposing force and blue shift in the package..

I just need EP2,TF2 and Portal... And i dont wanna take the trouble of buying the orange box and selling the HL2 and EP1... WTF is wrong with Valve...

wooooooohooooooo:hap2: :hap2: :hap2: .........for people like me who have played HL2 on a pure poop pc and havent completed it yet its nothing more then a boon

No offense Adi but i wont like to spend another 500 bucks on the stuff that i already own... Which i bought for 2000 bucks and so overall it is costing me 2500 bucks...

Why not just give the black box for 1500 bucks...

Seconded..

As for wht's wrong with Valve, their publisher is EA..see the connection ;)

Now I have no idea whether I should buy this or look for something else.

There must be some cheaper deals legally here in India.

I remember buying HL2 + CS for 1500 when it first came out but now you can get the whole trilogy for 500!@

Well, I agree about the part that the Black Box was cheaper, but how does 10$ even make a difference?

Plus its a GREAT deal, for people who havent played HL2/HL2 Ep1 already.

But what about you have... And think about peeps who get Rs 2000 as their pocket money and who already have HL2 and EP1 with them...

This is a horrible decision. Imagine if every other game also piled up with it, all it's predecessors. Its just that bad.

^ If every game out there came bundled with all it's predecessors for just $10 extra, it would be very very good. Make no mistake about that.

What is it with the nex-gen crowd, willing to pay for things like downloadable content and online multiplayer (lol), but not this?

Well... Why should I pay for the things I already own!! I just need HL2 EP2, This is a very bad idea from Valve, forcing customers to pay again for HL2 and HL2 EP1!!

^^Exactly....Why pay for something that I already have..... They shud be giving a choice to the customers to buy wahtever the customer wants not whatever they want o sell.....I hope they change their decision....

They have put in the Option of you being able to SELL the HL2 / HL2 Ep1 Code you know :S...

Theyve given different codes for the 2 sets of Games, i.e. HL2 / HL2 Ep1, and Ep2, TF2 and portal...

Dude why do they want us to sell the codes... Are they not worthy enough to sell it by themselves instead of forcing us to sell it for them...

Lol?

Valve aint worthy enough?...

Valve is undoubtedly the BEST Game company out there.. After all theyve got us HL2, HL2 Ep1, etc... Now Portal, TF2.. The future is looking amazingly bright for them.

Maybe theyre thinking another way? As in for the people who HAVENT played the game earlier? But seriously, What difference does Rs.430 i.e. 10$ make Switch?.. Specially to you :P.....

According to gaming website IGN, the Black Box Edition of Half-Life 2: Episode 2 has been canceled; believe it or not, this is good news – read what Doug Lombardi, Valve's director of marketing has to say, and you’ll agree:

5 awesome games for US$ 50-60 seems like an incredible deal to me; I’m surely gonna get a copy of the Orange Box as soon as it’s out!

Read this and then tell me. I tihnk it was a smart decision by Valve.
