A statement issued by the stewards on Thursday evening confirmed that Hamilton and McLaren Mercedes "acted in a manner prejudicial to the conduct of the event by providing evidence deliberately misleading to the stewards."

The stewards said the conduct was in breach of the International Sporting Code.

As I said before.... McLaren seem to be capable of winning only if they copy another championship winning car(2008) or if they lie and cheat.

Don't ban him. Let him stay and allow him to make a larger jerk of himself than he already is.

He wanted a few cars penalized in 2007 so that he could win the championship and now he blames an innocent guy of cheating behind safety car.

Well he got what he deserved but I was impressed with the fact that he was 4th (before any changes to final result) after starting from the back.

Can you be more specific as to what / where he accused Trulli of..? Let me assure you that I'm no fan of Hamilton; but I cannot understand why all the hatred against him.

Go through this conversation that had actually happened between Hamilton and his team at the pits..

Phil Prew (race engineer to Hamilton): OK Lewis, you should need to make sure your delta is positive over the safety car line. After the safety car line the delta doesn't matter but no overtaking. No overtaking.

Lewis Hamilton: The Toyota went off in a line at the second corner and I overtook him...is that OK?

PP: Understood, Lewis. We'll confirm and get back to you.

LH: He was off the track. He went wide.

PP: Lewis, you need to allow the Toyota through. Allow the Toyota through now.

LH: OK.

LH: He's slowed right down in front of me.

PP: OK, Lewis. Stay ahead for the time being. Stay ahead. We will get back to you. We are talking to Charlie (Whiting, race director).

LH: I've let him past already.

PP: OK, Lewis. That's fine. That's fine. Hold position. Hold position.

LH: Tell Charlie I already overtook him. I just let him past.

PP: I understand Lewis. We are checking. Now can we go to yellow G 5, yellow Golf 5.

LH: I don't have to let him past I should be able to take that position back, if he made a mistake.

PP: Yes, we understand Lewis. Let's just do it by the book. We are asking Charlie now. You are in P4. If you hold this position. Just keep it together.

PP: OK Lewis, your KERS is full, your KERS is full. Just be aware. You can go back to black F2, black Foxtrott 2.

LH: Any news from Charlie whether I can take it back or not?

PP: Still waiting on a response Lewis, still waiting.

PP: Lewis, work on your brakes please. Front brakes are cold.

PP: If we are able to use one KERS that would be good. If you deploy KERS please do so now.

PP: OK, Lewis, this is the last lap of the race. At the end of the lap the safety car will come in, you just proceed over the line without overtaking, without overtaking. We are looking into the Trulli thing, but just hold position.

The above has been released by the FIA, and you can also get the entire sound-byte if you want.. everything has been released to the public by the FIA.

Can you please tell what his mistake was..?

HP India baba please read this:

During the hearing, held approximately one hour after the end of the race, the Stewards and the Race Director questioned Lewis Hamilton and his Team Manager David Ryan specifically about whether there had been an instruction given to Hamilton to allow Trulli to overtake. Both the driver and the Team Manager stated that no such instruction had been given. The Race Director specifically asked Hamilton whether he had consciously allowed Trulli to overtake. Hamilton insisted that he had not done so.

Me being impressed with Hammy reaching 4th was the only positive thing I have ever said about him in my posts and now I take that back as well.

I suspect fowl play. Last I was read was about Toyota wanting to appeal for Trulli, which seemed fair. What is the point in Hamilton being stripped of his points ?

Now Hamilton must be a real moron to have answered to stewards like that, when he knew there was so much evidence on tape.. And for God's sake he had just accepted that fact to the media before going to the stewards. I don't know what he was thinking.. but I don;t mind if he is given a ban for this entire season also. God save him..! :P

I expected hamilton to get to a "cry-baby" like situation sometime during the mid-season.. but this is jus awesome.. now we can hear his whining above the F1 engines... :|

Stupid enuf to lie to stewards.. wat did he think he is India?

and please dont ban him... there will be lot more "entertainment" with him in the scene... ;)

I'm loving it!

@abby :- Was your previous nickname abhishek in any case ? Because then I would refrain from arguing ;)

Anyways this is what Lewis "Great" Hamilton had to say..

Hamilton: A big sorry for a huge mistake

Lewis Hamilton has said a "big sorry" for the "huge mistake" he made by withholding information from the Aussie race stewards but put the blame squarely on the shoulders of now suspended McLaren sporting director Dave Ryan.
Hamilton was excluded from the classification for last weekend's race after it was determined that he and the team's sporting director, Dave Ryan, had deliberately misled stewards in their investigation of how Jarno Trulli repassed him behind the Safety Car.
Ryan has been suspended by the team and Hamilton, the reigning world champion, still faces the possibility of further sanctions from the FIA, which could include suspension or disqualification from the championship.
"In Melbourne, I had a great race. As soon as I got out the car I had the television interviews at the back of the garage, and straight away I gave them a good account of what happening during the race," the reigning Champ said.
"Straight after that we were requested by the stewards, and while waiting for the stewards I was instructed and misled by my team manager to withhold information, and that is what I did.
"I sincerely apologise to the stewards for wasting their time and for making them look silly. I am very, very sorry for the situation: for my team, for Dave because he has been a good member of the team for many years, and whilst I don't think it was his intention or...he is a good guy.
"I went into the meeting, I had no intention of... I just wanted to tell the story and say what happened. I was misled and that is the way it went.
"I honestly acted as a team member. If the team have asked me to do something I have generally done it. I didn't have time to think about it, to think about what I was going to do. I went in and I did it, and I felt awkward. I felt very uncomfortable. I think the stewards could see that, and I guess that is why I am in this position.
"I would like to say a big sorry to all my fans who have believed in me, who have supported me for years, who I showed who I am for the past three years, and it is who I am. I am not a liar. I am not a dishonest person. I am a team player.
"Every time I have been informed to do something I have done it. This time I realise it was a huge mistake and I am learning from it. It has taken a huge toll on me. This is the worst thing I've experienced in my life and that's why I'm here, because it's right for me as a human being and as a man to stand up here in front of you all and tel you exactly what went on and say how sorry I am.
"I apologise to you guys, I didn't speak to you yesterday, but there was a lot of take in and a lot to deal with. I am here to apologise to everyone and I assure you it won't happen again."

Ouch, Mclaren seems to be getting into a lot of non-racing bull :P

But the grid looks good now, with so many capable of making the podium, this season is going to be fun, who knows even Force India could sneak in a podium finish :S .

Would've been fun to see schumi and Mika race with the current rules.
