PC Peripherals Hand Carry electronics from the US ?

Any one hand carried MB / Graphic Cards or Rams from the US .. ?? Did customs or the officals cause any problem at US or on the Indian shores ?? Let me know .. pls ..
 
^^How can u prolly carry one like tat??

U can remove the box but retain the thing in the static sensitive bag n cover it inside some cloth n make sure nothin damages it in the transit..
 
u can carry the stuff in the original box too if you want. make sure u carry the bills along. if the customs guys ask you can show them the bills. You are allowed to carry stuff worth 25k ~ 620$ without any extra duty. so long as you are under the limit there wont be any issues if you have proper bills and can prove value :)

Isn't it better to have such stuff in the hand baggage?

Otherwise, can't the custom guys just take whatever they want from the open bags ?
 
I guess its safer to put stuff like that in the Check in Baggage and carry my bills along .. I hope the customs done create problem .. but once I tried to justify them about 25K worth stuff .. they started with all kinda of cock and bull stories and i could feel the plot of nailing me .. i would never talk rules with theses guys..

+1 to that .I have also got stuff from people in the original packin mobo, proccy and gfx..o and ram also!!

i got procy, mobo, ram, hdd, 22in monitor, cpu cooler frm singapore...
there were 4 of us and the stuff was distributed amongst us...
no one even asked a single question at customs.
all items were in orig packaging
we had all bills too.
everything was in check in baggage...although buffered nicely with clothes all around....u can never trust bagage handlers...
monitor was in orig box, which was packd quite decently with "fragile" etc marks...which baggage handlers are supposed to pay attn to...
 
Hey what about laptops ?... if its above the $620 mark... my lappy is coming from malaysia though.. any idea?
 
what stellarhopper ad others said is exactly right..there's a limit of 25k per person and u wouldnt be charged duty if your total is below it..

incase your buying a proccy or Ram you can try wrapping it and stuffing it between clothes..just take care that you dont damage it ..

or you can even place the RAM\proccy in some box of hardware..so that it doesnt get detected..anways they dont scan with so much attention that it gets detected....:)

lappies from US go duty free ..M'sia no idea...but still it depends on your luck..is a single person carrying it ? or is it a family or something ?

not only from US :P

so long as u go out of india for >4 days, u can carry back a lappie with u on the way back without any duty on it :) (condition: age>18yrs)

look it up on the customs site online :P

nope, not of hes carrying only 1 lappy.

tell him to discard box tho. cos he ll have to bring it sayin its his own piece :)

manuals/cds/carry case etc no issues.

he can even take it with him on board as carry-on luggage. better than puttin it in the luggage :P

depends brand to brand so u ll need to check :)

Dell completecover warranty will be valid in India. some other brands also offer the same but u ll need to check the same for that brand in malaysia AND India :P

Sometimes u can get that by payin some small extra amount too.
