This is what shows up in my event viewer, what does it mean the hdd is only 8 months old and under warranty, my comp does 24/7 and the hdd temps do reach above 50 deg C which some hdd checking program showed as being the problem, any comments... are welcome

Thanks

Take a Quick backup...plug-out- Replace!

Essential S.M.A.R.T is reporting back to XP that some of the crtiticla parameters on the disk may be in bad shape hence the warning...

Which hard drive? What make? I've seen seagates misreport smart values but never seen xp spewing this out. Its wise to take a backup of all important stuff.

50C is a high temperature for HDDs - and I understand for instance Seagate HDDs keep a record of the highest temp reached and if this shows up as 50C I wonder if Seagate will replace the HDD .... maybe someone else here can confirm this.

If both the HDDs are reported as near death at the same time then check your SMPS - are the voltages OK ? Maybe just a glitch in the SMART reporting.... BUT 50C IS HIGH !!! Time for extra fans and cable management. You can get HDD coolers quite cheap.

like Chaos said .... BACKUP !!!!

Thanks a lot Easy, had to put some extra fans and off with the drives to Samsung try to get something as they are under warranty

Lets see,

Thanks for your help

If you still have high HDD temps then think about attaching a HDD cooler fan under the HDD - check these out here.... but buy them cheaper locally :)

eBay India - hard disk cooler, hard disk cooler Fans, Heatsinks, Cooling, Fans Coolers items at low prices

I have these coolers and they can reduce the HDD temps by as much as 7 - 10C. There are 2 types blowing and sucking air - the blowers really throw a lot of dust on the HDD's PCB - but these cool more :(
