Storage Solutions Hard Drive's PCB burnt - RMA or local repair ? Please help

Hi guys , i am in a terrible situation. This is what happened.

I have/had a 500gb Seagate (7200.12) hard drive packed fully with lots of important stuffs. I thought of connecting it to a laptop via SATA to USB converter.

As soon a i turned on the Power, the PCB of internal HDD started frying.

I connected the same HDD to my friends Desktop, it wasn't being detected :(.

What do i do now? Should i send it to RMA or swap the PCB .or solder it somewhere locally.
The Hard drive is still under warranty. I live in Bangalore.

Thanks in advance
Abhay

you can try local repair..although you will have to pay for the PCB but data wld be recovered..

In case the data is not worth paying for repair cost, you can give for RMA ...

Repairing the PCB doesnt void warranty.......

^ If there are any signs of burns/ physical damage the hard drive won't be accepted for RMA.If there are very minor burn marks or anything , you can try rubbing it with Acetone or something so that it goes unnoticed if you send it for RMA .If the marks / damage is easily visible you are out of luck .

Its no longer under warranty if it has the slightest telltale sign of burning/any other sort of physical damage. If the data is very important to you, just get it recovered (The charges for the same are not going to be cute).

Ok, so the Warranty is void :( . Basically the hard drive is unable to receive any input power, can just the PCB(burnt out part ) be soldered locally. What would be the cost for the data revcovery? .

Can`t say about the cost required while recovering the datas, you can easily repair the PCB by some local guys. That would cost some 600 to 700 bucks.

Please give address of nehru place guys who supplies pcb of 300GB/500gb seagate HDDs. I urgently requires them. I went to NP yesterday but could not find them.

Get the PCB board replaced locally. It will solve your problem. But since you are going to get the Service with a local repair shop, you have to pay him for the board unlike in RMA you will get it replaced (not repaired) for free.

Cost of repairing of board will cost you around Rs700.
