Its a really nice server :O !_!. I Wish i owned one.

And i wouldnt play Quake 3 on it. It go right on the Quake 4 !_!.

I don't think there would be any diff in Q3/4 from the single proccy ones. The games r generally single threaded things.

What i really like to see is compressing 4 DVDs to DivX at the same time!
BTW this truely is a HARD(DUAL)CORE 4 CPU rig!!!!

Well, we do know that all nex gen. games will mostly Utilize Dual Cores.
Quake 4 is mostly gonna do so. :D.

OMG ! That is just awesome ! That PC will have amazing capabilities !

Q3 will definately pump out 1k FPS if its coupled with 2x 7800GTX ;)

Unfortunately, quad opteron boards are mainly designed for servers, not workstations. Hence, they are unlikely to have even an agp slot. Forget about SLI.

Hmm, thats true, but then somebody can create a custom board for it. Actually CPU power will be so much that even onboard graphics should generate atleast 700 FPS...

^^ Q3 is one of the only multithreaded games around ;)

Well what you saying means that Q3 is only a multithreaded game.

Q3 is one of the multithreaded games around.
Q3 is one of the few multithreaded games around.

Typo :D. What I meant was that q3 is one of two or 3 titles that are multithreaded ;).

as of now nothing much. It will be slower than current top end athlon 64 models for that matter.

Bcoz games are not yet multithreaded except very few select and that too old games like Quake 3.

So only 1 core will be doing all the work, so 7 out of 8 cores will be sitting idle ( if you have other processes they will handle those but no other core will work for game).

Things may change in a year or so.

I say a year bcoz i dont think devlopers will wana take chance to optimise their games for multithreading unless dual core reaches majority of the gamers which i dont see happening overnight.
