the Hathway folks called me up today to ask me if I would like to upgrade to a 256kbps unlimited (no d/l-u/l cap) for 995/- pm....
What say folks, does it sound like a decent deal? :)

I say straight away. Its a great offer m8.
if I were u, i wudn't have asked for anyone else's opinion. ;)

the reason why I asked is that with my current 64 kbps, i get 7+ KBps not too often....
Most of the time, the speed hovers between 40-60kbps.....Since there are no SLAs that you can insisit on while taking an ISPs service, all you can do is pray and hope....and of course ask for other's opinions.....;-)
Anyone else using Hathway 256?

I have been using this for 2 months - it has been very good. I get about 95 mb downloaded in an hour. Speed is very good. Attached a screen capture of a 250mb file download speed. But I live in an area in South Mumbai where they dont have too many users - I dont know if this makes any difference.

Wow....I am taking it......For sure :-)
Not too many users of this service in my area in Chennai either :-D.....

Thanks mate!

Enough of my crappy 64k......shooo away you bullock cart riders, I am getting myself a ferrari....:-D

In news that i just heard that BSNL and MTNL have reduced their broad band charges by 50% of their current charges so may be the other broad band companies in competition would lash their prices down too!!!!! :hap2:

^^ yep ur right but no reduction in monthly charges :(
The charges for BSNL's Dataone service has been slashed with effect from June 9, 2005 onwards.

BSNL has reduced the modem installation charges to Rs 250. In case of an outright purchase from BSNL, the installation charges shall be waived off.
The security deposit of Rs 500 shall be made refundable for customers renting modem from BSNL and all the existing customers of Dataone as well.

I do not think they are giving it to rthe cable modem subscribers.....I have a ethernet based connection which they call Web-Time....So if the connections in your area are through CAT5 cables, they should be able to give it to you...Call up 52181313 (DOn't waste your time asking them qstns though) and ask them to ask someone from mktng to call you up

I am at Churchgate.... Hathway dont seem to advertise this plan - you have to ask them for it. It is called "Freeway Monthly" - phone Hathway and ask them.

After my request they changed my plan pretty fast - within 24 hours.

But what i heard in the news it looks like they are slashing their monthly charges too.Donno if these news people were telling the truth or was that there to cover up their time slot????

yup i checked that uploads speed never goes above 5-6kBps.......but since i took it considering downloads..i m happy that i get 20+..........since they r only decent net providing service in our area.....sify no pt of using it..........reliance..idiots..have big web world..but doesnt provide decent home net else there web world gaming business will b affected
