Am finally gettin 128kbps cablenet

We have 2 comps in our house. One belongs to my sis, another one is mine. Now, i want to split the connection such that, we can similtaneously connect to the net....

They'll be giving us some software and a Username/Password to connect....

So...is it possible to connect to the net simultaneously?? I know we have to use a switch, but still will the software given by them give us probs??

Depends upon whether the hathway people allow multiple user logins. i.e. sharing of ur net connection.

if they allow then a cable switch will do just fine.

note: even if you get a switch which can clone the mac address of your nic it will be useless if hathway software uses a LSP program for authentication and connectivity. for e.g. the cyberoam (www.cyberoam.com) made by elitecore technologies, used by many cable networks here in mumbai like in2cable.

so it would be better if you ask the hathway people first , whether the net connections can be shared at all.??

Hmmm...but wont the hathway ppl suspect me if i ask them???

i'll ask them anyway....

whats there to suspect? ask them if they allow sharing of the same connection between 2 PCs.. act dumb (but in ur case u dont have to :P ) and tell them its OK if the 'speed is shared' but u want the net connection on 2 PCs.. :D

Hathway do not allow this.

What you can do is to install a router and get two separate cables. In this case, say both comps are being used, then you will get 64 x 2 = 128kbps. But if only one comp is being used, you get full 128. s

u sure about this??? how much will the router cost?

no idea..... why don't you find out??

I am sure abt this for Bangalore. I wanted a Hath conection and we have 3 systems in our house and I specifically asked him abt this..... But thos @$$#0*** finally said that they do not have connectivity in my area.... DAMN!!! Still stuck with this bloody exatt

NO!!! They do NOT allow two connections.
And even if you get a router it will not work! Cyberroam does a lot of screwed up s*** which means that even using ICS, proxy etc will not work!
Ask Superczar! He has had problems galore which he has not been able to fix. I might help him with that tho, if I get the time in a week or so.

Hey Sunny...Sotrry I have been away for a long time ...couldn't respond to this earlier....Have been very busy of late :-(

You don't need to kiss broadband bye bye.....There are multiple ways to work-around the problem you have.....However, none of them easy......
Let me know if you still want to do it, and we can probably have a detailed discusion on this....

Just to cheer you up, I have a Hathway 128kbps connection atht I share on three comps.....with file sharing and everything working......
As I said,t here are multiple ways to do it and It can be done with/without a route...The best way is of course dependednt on your needs..Let me know if you want to ....

k...can spend on a swtich if needed...dont want one comp to be on all the time...

wud be much better if both ppl can access at the same time :D

Never mind....here you go....
Tell me which sol'n you want to use....

a) Use a router, login through one machine,,,leech through the other....
b) Use a router, login through Linc via the machine using Linux....or Linc running on Cygwin (Linux shell on top of Windows)
c) Use a P2P network without router....login thru one, leech thri other....

Mind you, none of this is easy....It will take you lot of effort to get this done.....
