Hathway tweak?

shall i change those values to get optimum tweaks? default is 32. tell me what is that? i think reducing value may increase speed.
 
ARRE !! Ever since the Hathway Engineer made some changes in settings to my account at the back end a week back my conx is now opening pages at 1 - 2 kbps :( Cannot download mail or browse any more - it takes about 5 minutes to open any page :( Everytime the Hathway engineer tweaks my account it slows down even more :(

All the time and I get ANSWER No. 5 .... which is.... "Line is under maintenance"..... every time same answer .... now when I phone first thing I ask "Is the line under maintenance ?" ... they also laugh at this :)

Earlier whenever I complained within 24 hours they would rectify the problem but this time for 2 months ... got nothing but "Line is Under Maintenance" from their call centre. I complained strongly 2 weeks back to the cablewalla and he fired Hathway and now my conx is crawling.

Strangely other Hathway users in my area dont have my conx problem ... I even restored an old backup image from a time when the conx was perfect but even that was no good .. I wonder if it is my Cable Modem which has a problem :(
 
oh. check in other operating system or reinstall protocols/modem drivers. btw which modem u got? ive got Scientific Atlanta from Cisco modem. small black box.
 
Not an OS problem ... reinstalled XP fresh - same problem :(

Webstar .... about 6 - 7 years old now. Got it with my first Hathway account for 9k .. wonder if Lightniong damaged it when we had the thunderstorm 2 months back :(
 
im having similar kinda problem but only during games
apart frm that i can do all other things prefectly well
dl speed at home is around 40/35 kbps on a 256 line.
is there any way to tweak the line or uncap the modem i tried to uncap it got around 1 mb dl speed next day that hathway guys came to my place to see the line.DUMBEEEEEEEE guy says we have a line problem soo we need to disable your line for 1 day will start the next day.Later on when i called him up for the game problem he said we provide only dedicated line soo there must be a problem with your PC virus problem, :mad: and that guy had the balls to tell my mom that your son might be surfing porn sites thats why the viruses appear in the PC.:mad:

tell me what settings you did to ur modem to uncap bandwidth upto 1mbps?

OMG! .. u gotta kill that guy :| or get him fired at least

Btw i have a webstar modem ... will the tweak help ?
 
whatever u said nvbeast is giving me a speed increase of 30 kbps....

and uncapping modems isn't exactly advisable.....I don't want to do it :no:

EDIT :

After using TCP optimiser , i get a 20kbps speed increase....it does have a bit of an effect....

A full 50 kbps increase from what i got in the morning :D ... i guess the traffic is lesser now or something ....TCP optimiser is worth a try tho
 
There is a thing called as Dr.TCP its pretty small software its changes the reg files settings make sure u take back up of the setting

and you need to experiment with your modem and set the setting accordingly

just search for DRTCP021.exe or .zip file and run restart your PC and tweak your seting in the window for my setting i had to go through many combination finally something suited.Also for this thing to get around 1mb speed you need many hathway users around you sharing the same line.

i have 11 ppl in the building who use hathway and i'm the 12th person soo he line gets distributed through all since the wire goes 1st from my house i kinda uncaped it but the next day they turned off my net connection for a day :mad:
 
Though i dont get 512kbps speed when i start downloading at night but when i switch off the pc ard 1gb of download takes place which is quivalent to the speed....so no complain there.....

Eazy give them ultimatum sir......u get better speed in mobile office using airtel than this...threat them u going mtnl way.....also if u dobt its the modem tell them to replace...u shouldnt have bought it..i did paid 3k initially for modem charges but its refundable deposit......

nvidiabeast is thos settings u getting in windows.....or some software related to modem???and try and change after not getting something good i guess u can ofcourse rechange it

THEY dont care anymore... If I threaten them they will probably just disconnect my line and say GO !! and they will do this to me -> :tongue:

Someone I know who runs a cyber cafe had problems with Hathway and they threatened to close their Rs. 1 lakh/month account if problems were not sorted out fast and no one from Hathway bothered about it, so they closed the account and shifted to VSNL.
 
@ magnet, those comes in modem configuration. i changed to 1 and no change, i changed to 16 no change in speed etc.

@ ero-sannin - how to set in Dr.TCP for optimum speed? is has many options to configure
 
whats the default TTL for hathway modem? i think its 32. if i change to 16 will the responsiveness improve.. i will do changes today only as today sunday and less probability for getting caught in stealing bandwidth :p
