I had a nokia 6600 and took a backup of the phone memory on the memory card by going to Organize -> memory -> Options -> Backup Phone memory.
Now i do not have the cell phone but need to get the data from this backup file (*.arc). Is there any tool /way / method by which i can get my data back ??
I tried putting this arc file in the backup folder of another symbian phone (Nokia 6630) but when i go to the above said location it does not show me the option to 'restore' :@

nokia's .arc backup file is quite complex and very difficult to extract. try doing the following:

download parse_backup from this website.

follow the instructions there. you will have to open each file using notepad and find out which file contains contacts, calendar, notes, etc. look carefully because these files contain a lot of scrambled characters.

once you find the files, rename the contacts file to contacts.cdb. for calendar and notes im not sure what file format it should be.

download noki from here.

this is only a trial version. using the trial version you will only be able to restore a limited number of contacts. dont waste your time into looking for an "ahem" version because you wont be able to find one. so if you really badly want it, you would have to pay a small amount.

after doing all this, you will be able to get your contacts. but im not sure about the calendar. for notes you can just open the file that you found and copy the contents without the scrambled characters.

p.s There's a guide on backup.arc recovery and backup.arc and MMC on the Noki site.

Problem is that NOKI costs whopping $50. The trial version only recovers a small portion of your .arc files. We need a free alternative desperately.
